HP 3PAR HP-UX Implementation Guide

There are 2 HP-UX host personas:
Persona 7 for HPUX-legacy 11i v3 (11.31) for pre 3.1.3 releases and 11i v2 (11.23)
Provides: VolSetAddr and Lun0SCC
Persona 13 for HP-UX 11i v3 (11.31) only in 3.1.3 onward (recommended)
Provides: VolSetAddr, Lun0SCC, UARepLun, ALUA, and SESLun

VSA is an addressing scheme that uses virtual busses, targets, and LUNs to
increase the number of LUNs that can be addressed on a target port of a disk
array.
VolSetAddr
Volume Set Addressing (VSA)
The HP-UX FC LUN number is the last three numbers in the hardware path:
0/5/1/0/4/0.8.0.0.0.0.2
The LUN number is 0.0.2 (2 + 0*8 + 0*128 = 2), that is, LUN #2
1/0/12/0/0/0/0.100.193.64.0.2.6
The LUN number is 0.2.6 (6 + 2*8 + 0*128 = 22), that is, LUN #22
The storage controller presents as LUN 0. When the Lun0SCC capability applies,
you cannot use LUN 0 as a storage LUN.
Lun0SCC
LUN 0 SCC (SCSI–3 Controller
Commands)
With UARepLun enabled, when a LUN is added or deleted the following SCSI
diagnostics are sent:
UARepLun
Unit Attention Report LUN
cdb status: (0x02) Check Condition
sense key: (0x06) Unit Attention
additional sense code: 0x3f
additional sense code qualifier: 0x0e
The SCSI ASC/ASCQ Assignment is: 3F/0E Reported LUNs data has changed
With ALUA enabled, all LUNs are seen by both storage processors as active, but
each LUN is owned by an individual storage processor. The storage processor
ALUA
Asymmetric Logical Unit Access
that owns the LUN has a direct or optimized path and the other storage processor
has an indirect or unoptimized path to the LUN via an interconnect bus.
ALUA is required for Peer Motion. See the HP 3PAR Peer Motion Guide in the HP
Support Center for more information.
HP 3PAR OS 3.1.3 and newer for HP-UX host persona 13 automatically presents
a SCSI enclosure services (SES) LUN 254 to the host. If a data virtual volume (VV)
SESLun
SCSI Enclosure Services LUN
is presented or unpresented as LUN 254, system administrator actions are required
to complete the presentation or un-presentation. An HP-UX host can use the SES
LUN 254 but, if a data VV LUN 254 is presented, it must be unpresented.
See “SCSI Enclosure Services (SES) LUN Considerations” (page 18) for more
information.
1. To create host definitions, issue the createhost [options] <hostname> [<WWN>...]
command. For example:
# createhost -persona 13 hpux-host 1122334455667799 1122334455667788
