1 Introduction This document provides the release notes for the HP 3PAR InForm OS (Operating System) and Command Line Interface (CLI). You must read this document prior to installing the 3.1.1 version of this product. NOTE: This release notes document describe the features and fixes included in InForm OS 3.1.1. Refer to the appropriate release notes for all prior releases.
2 HP 3PAR InForm OS 3.1.1 GA Release Notes Online Upgrade Considerations This feature allows the upgrade of the InForm OS concurrently with I/O activity on the attached hosts, provided certain conditions are met. For further information and pre-planning of Rolling Upgrades, refer to the latest version of the HP 3PAR InForm OS Upgrade Pre-Planning Guide. To obtain a copy of this documentation, see http://www.hp.
System, HP 3PAR T-Class Storage System, and HP 3PAR F-Class Storage System – all in 64-bit mode. • Chunklet size on HP P10000 3PAR Storage Systems is increased to 1GB. Chunklets are the first layer of mapping in the InForm OS advanced internal virtualization that increases storage management efficiency, capacity utilization, and performance. Chunklets virtualize physical drives of any size into a pool of granular, uniform-sized virtual disks.
Storage System or moving a large number of volumes between tiers. Dynamic Optimization first analyzes how volumes are using physical disk space and which resources were added to the system. It then makes intelligent, autonomic adjustments to ensure optimal volume distribution of storage volumes.
Additional Ease of Use Enhancements • Greater number of simultaneous Full Copy operations and promote operations enables use of Full Copy more broadly and at greater scale. • SMI-S 1.4 and SNMP v3 support enables enhanced standards-based management of HP 3PAR Storage Systems. • InForm OS CLI client now supports the IPv6 standard.
System startup after 24 hour shutdown requires manual intervention Prior to InForm OS 3.1.1, an HP 3PAR array could be shut down for extended periods of time and when powered up again, the array would automatically complete its boot sequence and no manual intervention would be required to return the array to normal functioning. As of InForm OS 3.1.1, if the array is shut down for a period of more than 24 hours, when the array is powered up, it will fail to complete its boot sequence automatically.
Bug ID Item Description Unit Attention on the LUN to indicate to the initiators accessing the LUN that the reservation is cleared. 12 46454 Associators and References In previous releases, Associators and References on on TPD_StorageClientSettingData failed to return associations to TPD_StorageClientSettingData TPD_StorageHardwareID. This issue is addressed now. fails to return associations to TPD_StorageHardwareID.
Bug ID Item Description 51523 R5 IDs incorrectly checked Corrected signed/unsigned 32–bit overflow issue so that R5 logical disks are now correctly checked regardless of size. 51846 A Node down SNMP trap is not generated. Fixed an issue in which a Node down SNMP trap is not generated if the node with the active Ethernet connection was forcefully removed.
Bug ID Item Description 55218 Empty virtual volume set export error message The error message when an empty virutal volume set was exported was not clear. Because exporting a virtual volume set isn't a logical action this action is no longer allowed. 56082 LUN auto-choose Auto-choosing a LUN for a host that saw active exports using a host set would sometimes incorrectly fail. The checks for host set exports are improved to resolve this issue.
Bug ID Item Description 58852 Recovery requires user intervention During a power failure or multi-node panic recovery, there were some cases in which the system required user intervention in the form of issuing a setsysmgr force_iderecovery command. These cases were a) when all but one node had saved data without proper handshake with the missing node and b) when the system was in the process of creating a volume (base or snapshot) when the save occurred.
Bug ID Item Description received that spanned two logical disks with different owners. The I/O was split and passed to the logical disk owner nodes; however, if one of these nodes failed , the backup node took over and completed the I/O. This was where the remote copy miscompare was happening, although the backup node reliably completed the I/O to the base volume on the primary, it did not issue the remote copy request. This issue is addressed.
To allow users to authenticate while also requiring a certificate with SSL, recreate the certificate used by the LDAP or Active Directory server and sign it with SHA. A less secure option is to configure LDAP authentication with SSL but not require a valid certificate by using the setauthparam command to set the ldap-reqcert parameter to 0.
immediately. In addition, any new volume creation should be set to the default policy of tp_bzero. Use the CLI command showvv –pol to determine the current policy on virtual volumes. 32-Bit Libraries Needed for 64-Bit Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.1 to Run a CLI Client (Bug 63679) The 64-bit OS version of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.1 (RHEL) may require the installation of compatible 32-bit libraries prior to installing this CLI client patch.
downgrade, dual SD TPVVs must be converted to single SD TPVVs by removing all of the snapshots for those TPVVs. • RAID Multi-Parity (MP) - InForm OS releases prior to 2.3.1 do not support RAID MP; therefore, any RAID MP Logical Disks (LDs) must be tuned to a supported RAID type or removed prior to downgrade. • SD Reclaim Space - SD Reclamation is not supported by previous InForm OS releases. Prior to a downgrade, SD volumes that has its space reclaimed must be removed.
resync time for the Remote Copy groups. Setting up periodic resync time for Remote Copy groups when recovery manager is active could disrupt the operation of Recovery Manager. Workaround: Remote Copy can support the mixture of Recovery Manager snapshots and Remote Copy snapshots (outside of Recovery Manager) if the following procedure is followed: Inside the Recovery Manager Windows scheduler script: 1. Set the Remote Copy period to 0. 2. Verify Remote Copy SyncStatus as "Synced". 3.
Workaround: Reset the parameter to the default value by reissuing tunelinks with bandwidth=128000 (or higher) and latency=100. Remote Copy Volumes go Stale Due to Lack of Adm Space (Bug 44963) The default grow value of 64 GB might be insufficient for volumes which are in Remote Copy groups. The reason is Remote Copy relies on taking snapshots during the initial sync phase and also during the resync periods.
Workaround: The server administrator must use the Computer Management+Disk Management option, right-click each of the HP 3PAR LUNs, and then set the LUN online so that the application can access the HP 3PAR LUN. 22 HP 3PAR InForm OS 3.1.
3 HP 3PAR InForm OS CLI Release Notes Installation Notes for the InForm OS CLI Virus Checking Virus checking is known to slow down and potentially cause issues with installation of the InForm OS CLI. Before attempting an install or uninstall of the InForm OS CLI, shut down all running applications and disable virus-checking software. What’s New in the InForm OS CLI The following features are added/removed for InForm OS 3.1.1 CLI: InForm OS CLI support for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.1 (RHEL) is added.

Use controlport config to set target (host) or initiator (disk) modes.
Modifications to the InForm OS CLI Bug ID Item Description N/A showtarget command The command functionality is new. It will display remote volumes in showtarget but not in showpd. It will also display the SCSI inquiry and mode page information. N/A createvv, createtpvv, setvv, createaldvv, createavv, and createtemplate commands Changed HPC limit from 1024 to 255.
Bug ID Item Description 55785 showvv -cpg command enhancement In previous releases, the showvv -cpg command only listed the base volumes belonging to a CPG. This is modified so that both the snapshots and the base volumes belonging to a CPG are listed.
Bug ID Item Description blocks can cause uncontrolled boundary can run into this issue. The issue is caused by inconsistent large shutdown of node I/O size checking in two places in system. The solution is to make both size checking consistent. 68507 Reduce logging of SCSI events Earlier InForm OS releases could generate a large number of event log entries of the forms "Mode Sense 0x1C event sent to sysmgr" and "SCSI CPG request". Generation of these event log entries is suppressed in this release.
Bug ID Item Description Workaround: Pass virtual volume sets that are not empty to the createvvcopy command. 45413 Integer arguments to CLI commands with leading 0 (zeros) are treated as octal numbers. The CLI shell is a TCL-based shell, as such it parses integers with leading 0 (zero) as octal numbers, just like many other languages and shells (bash, perl, etc). Consequently, integer arguments passed to the CLI commands are also treated as octal numbers if they have a leading 0.
4 InForm OS 3.1.1 MU1 Release Notes Online Upgrade Considerations CAUTION: SP-2.5.1.GA-xx P005 is a mandatory prerequisite Service Processor patch required when upgrading from 3.1.1 GA to 3.1.1 MU1. Bug ID Item Description 64871 Provider fails when An issue was corrected where provider fails when a client tries to create a volume creating a volume with with CreateOrModifyElementFromStoragePool without setting the Goal parameter. CreateOrModifyElementFromStoragePool nl 65111 Adding VMWare support for for Peer Motion Manager Peer Motion Manager now supports VMWare in InForm OS 3.1.1 MU1.
Bug ID Item Description 66808 Throttle user/snap The user and snap space defragmentation can consume a lot of system resources space defragmentation in short bursts and can cascade into leaving the Storage System unresponsive to host I/O. To address this issue, space defragmentation is throttled. 66810 Allowed encryption methods for SSH reduced To improve security, some cipher and MAC (Message Authentication Code) algorithms are disabled.
Known Issues with the InForm OS System Manager Failover During Group Snapshot Creation May Result in an Inconsistent Group (57883) If System Manager failover occurs during group snapshot creation then the snapshot group may not be consistent and some snapshots may be missing. Workaround: If System Manager failover occurs during group snapshot creation then the group should be removed and a new snapshot group created.
CLI Command controlport rst –l Can Lead to Fatal PCI Errors (68387) Using the CLI command controlport rst -l on a 10G iSCSI port under heavy host I/O can lead to fatal PCI errors and a subsequent node reboot. Workaround: To prevent fatal PCI errors do not use the -l option for the controlport command. 36 InForm OS 3.1.
5 InForm OS 3.1.1 MU1 CLI Release Notes Removed and Deprecated Commands and Options The following commands are removed or deprecated in the InForm OS 3.1.1 MU1 release. Removed Commands and Options Logs removeeventlog The CLI command removeeventlog is removed.

For further information and pre-planning of Rolling Upgrades, refer to the latest version of the HP 3PAR InForm OS Upgrade Pre-Planning Guide.
Bug ID Item Description TYPE field. InForm OS is updated to reflect the new SCSI specification. 67897 Preventing System Manager failure when removing snapshot space via setvv The System Manager was failing when snapshot space was removed from a Virtual Volume via the "setvv -snp_cpg ''" command. This issue is resolved, and the command will now either throw an error (if, for instance, there are still snapshots), or work as expected.
Bug ID Item Description • Resolved table inconsistencies due to race condition between power down and error handling • Resolved an unexpected termination issue when there were multiple link resets without power cycle • Prevent microcode download of Toshiba flash base firmware • Resolved the security issue so that the drive will not be unlocked after the number of incorrect password attempts exceed the limit.
Bug ID Item Description 71873 Update LBP Log Page The format of the Logical Block Provisioning Log Page is updated to match the definition given in recent drafts of the SBC-3 SCSI specification. 72077 Added Domains property to TPD_StorageSystem that lists all domains that can seen by the current user A new property Domains of String[] type is added to TPD_StorageSystem that contains a list of all the domains that the current user can see.
Bug ID Item Description 74004 Remote copy - initial synchronization After a read-write virtual copy is admitted to a remote copy from a read-write virtual copy may group, following the initial synchronization, we read the data leave the secondary volume inconsistent from the read-write virtual copy instead of synchronized virtual copy. Therefore, the newly written data to the read-write virtual copy is incorrectly replicated to the target side. The following resynchronization rectifies the issue.
Workaround: No more than 160TB of importvv operations should be started or scheduled (pending) on a single Storage System. RCFC Link Issues When Using FCIP Gateways on InForm OS 3.1.1 (Bug 62647) The RCFC link down and retransmission thresholds were tuned to support 8Gbps FC links in 3.1.1. These new values may cause the links to occasionally go down and up when an FCIP gateway is used as part of the RCFC network. Workaround: None.

Issue ID Item Description 69127 Import of a snapshot in ESX fails with invalid When an ATS request is initiated while DCOW is meta data when VAAI ATS is enabled. pending, the ATS handling path does not resolve the pending DCOW and causes data corruption. 69606 In cases where NL drives are overloaded to the extreme, upper layers can see this as loss of access. If multiple NL drives are in this state, this loss of access can result in volumes going into preserved state.
Issue ID Item Description class drives on the node which really does not have that type of storage class configured. 74115 Performance issue when refreshing all cage Due to the last update time for cage data not being set, data in IMC frequently refreshing cage information would result in excessive SCSI commands being sent to the cage potentially causing performance issues. This is resolved.
Issue ID Item Description and thus they are used for a different host (Host-B). But, the FC driver does not completely erase the device database entry for Host-A. Therefore, an old device entry is present in the device database. Later, a look-up for Host-A in the device database returns the old device entry and further operation (for example releasing resources) on the old entry causes a different host (Host-B) to disconnect since the resources in the old entry are now used by that host (Host-B).
Issue ID Item Description 81905 A race condition during node reintegration that causes SYSMGR to become unresponsive and data services to become unavailable. A race condition during node reintegration that causes SYSMGR to become unresponsive and data services to become unavailable. This is resolved. 82238 The issue in remote copy WRITE_SAME_ZERO area can cause IO to become unresponsive.
