HP 3PAR Online Import for EMC Storage Data Migration Guide

3 Preparing for Data Migration
Use the information in this chapter to ensure all necessary tasks are performed and considerations
are understood before beginning a migration.
Considerations When Migrating Data
Before migrating data using 3PAR Online Import for EMC Storage, be aware of the following:
General
HP recommends that a single host be migrated at a time, unless a cluster is being migrated,
in which case all the hosts have to move at once.
Only virtual disks presented to Fibre Channel hosts can be migrated. Virtual disks presented
to iSCSI or FCoE hosts cannot be migrated.
LUNs identified for migration should not be part of any other current application jobs. For
example, make sure the LUN is not part of a replication job or backup job.
The LUN limit for active offline migrations is 25.
When a virtual disk on the source EMC Storage system is migrated, a management lock is
installed to prevent any unwanted management changes to the virtual disk during the migration.
The Management Lock remains on the virtual disk after the migration.
Only one EMC Storage system at a time can be attached as a source to the destination HP
3PAR StoreServ Storage system.
EMC virtual disks cannot be migrated if they are larger than 16 TB, the maximum volume size
on the HP 3PAR StoreServ Storage system.
EMC virtual disks cannot be migrated if they are lesser than 256 MB which is the minimum
volume size on the HP 3PAR StoreServ Storage systems.
Any sharing relationships among snapshots and EMC MirrorView are lost during migration.
Snapshots become standalone objects on the destination HP 3PAR StoreServ Storage system.
LUNs that have been migrated cannot be part of a replication group.
System Requirements
NOTE: For detailed information on ensuring the source EMC Storage system and the destination
HP 3PAR StoreServ Storage system are configured properly for data migration, see the following:
Single Point of Connectivity Knowledge (SPOCK) website:
http://www.hp.com/storage/spock
Before migrating data from an EMC Storage system to an HP 3PAR StoreServ Storage system using
HP 3PAR Online Import for EMC Storage, the system environment must meet the following
requirements:
Source EMC Storage system must be running a supported firmware level. See the SPOCK
website for supported firmware versions.
The destination HP 3PAR StoreServ Storage system must have a valid 3PAR Online Import or
3PAR Peer Motion license installed.
The destination HP 3PAR StoreServ Storage system must be at HP 3PAR OS level 3.1.3 MU1.
or later.
