1 Introduction The HP 3PAR Service Processor Software 4.1.x Release Notes document is cumulative and includes information about the base release of Service Processor Software 4.1.0 and subsequent updates. This document should be read prior installing the SP 4.1.x Software. To access this guide, go to http://www.hp.com/3par/support_manuals. HP 3PAR open source software is available on the HP Portal in the Software Depot Kiosk: www.software.hp.
2 Service Processor Software 4.1.0 Release The following release notes are for the HP 3PAR Service Processor (SP) Software 4.1 release. What’s New in the Service Processor HP 3PAR Service Processor functions as the communication interface between the customer’s IP network and HP 3PAR Central by managing all service-related communications in both directions. The Service Processor leverages the industry-standard HTTP over Secure Socket Layer (HTTPS) protocol to secure and encrypt data communication.
Known Issues with the Service Processor Guided Maintenance: In certain cases, improper default disk logging may be set (Issue 62583) If you use the GM scripts to run servicemag start in preparation for disk replacement, GM scripts will propose a default value for the logging parameter in servicemag start. In most cases, the default value for logging is appropriate. However, if one disk is marked as “Degraded” and another FC disk is marked as “Failed”, GM will set an inappropriate logging value of YES.
Errors when booting up the virtual SP (Issue 80861) You may encounter an ESXi server error, an eth1 error, or a kdump error. • If the ESXi server is not set up to support the DHCP server, it will not provide an IP address to the client ESXi; therefore, the VSP will not get the IP address. • An eth1 error occurs because the static IP 10.255.155.54 address is used by some other system, and it is conflicting. • A kdump error is due to the Linux kernel. It has nothing to do with SP or VSP.
SP4.1 with HP 3PAR OS-3.1.2 in SPMAINT (not SPOCC) still attempts to configure SP legacy node rescue (Issue 79693) Workaround: Attempt node to node rescue. For more information, see the HP 3PAR StoreServ 7000 Storage Service Guide. You must set up alert emails manually (Issue 79635) The HP 3PAR storage system does not automatically email you alerts as issues occur (e.g., a CPG becomes low on space, a disk drive fails, and so on). Workaround: Use SPOCC's Setup module to set up Local Notification.
NOTE: This issue has the same workaround as Issue 81645 (“After upgrade to 4.1 and 3.1.2, InSplore does not complete”). SP installations in the field are being delayed or failing because the installer cannot find the VSP SP_ID (Issue 82463) The method to generate the HP 3PAR Service Processor ID for virtual and physical Service Processors attached to the HP 3PAR StoreServ 7000 has changed. The virtual Service Processor will no longer use the 32-character VMware UUID.
3 Service Processor Software 4.1.0 P001 Release What’s New in the Service Processor The SP 4.1.0.GA-60 P001 patch corrects an issue created by upgrading an SP from 2.5.2 to 4.1.0 using the 2.5.2.GA-11.410 patch. After the patch is applied, the transfer of all files to HP 3PAR Headquarters returns to normal. Modifications to the Service Processor Issue ID Item Description 81735 After upgrade to SP4.1.0.GA-60, SP no longer gathers or transfers most logs The SP 4.1.
4 Service Processor Software 4.1.0 P002 Release What’s New in the Service Processor The SP-4.1.0.GA-60 P002 patch is a mandatory patch that resolves an issue in which /var directory content is deleted from the nodes. This issue is caused by a malformed command propagated by InSplore. Failure to install this patch may cause an extended system outage. This patch is available as physical media or as a self-install package for deployment to Secure Network Mode devices (available internally to HP only).
5 Service Processor Software 4.1.0 MU1 Release What’s New in the Service Processor This release includes all previously released SP 4.1 patches, P001 and P002. Additionally, both the Moment of Birth (MOB) process and the SP Setup Wizard now verify connectivity to the global access servers (GAS). Modifications to the Service Processor The following issues have been addressed in this release. Issue ID Item Description 81672 SP 4.
SP Setup wizard retains setupusr password even though MOB was not completed (Issue 84154) If you have successfully set the password for the setupusr account and verified it with a re-authentication as part of SP Setup wizard process, then even if the SP Setup wizard does not complete and the wizard is restarted (for example, because of an IP address conflict), you must enter the password that you just configured for the setupusr account. This is expected behavior. HP 3PAR OS 3.1.
In SPOCC, SP Process Status displays "Warning: spevent is currently not running" but SPMAINT reports it as running (Issue 80638) This inconsistency is due to the way reports for parent/child tasks are handled in SPOCC and in SPMAINT. In this case, the SPOCC display is the correct one. If you are logged in to the SP as spdood and can open a command prompt, run the ps -efH command to view the correct status.
Workaround: Press CTRL+C to exit out of SPMAINT, and then launch SPMAINT again. NOTE: This issue is seen only on an iLO display and not on the SSH console.
6 Service Processor Software 4.1.0 MU2 Release What’s New in the Service Processor The SP 4.1.0 Maintenance Update 2 (MU2) release includes the previously released SP 4.1 patches (P001 and P002) and Maintenance Update 1 (MU1), and it includes the following enhancements: • After upgrading to SP 4.1 MU2, Service Processors that are configured in Secure Network Mode (Axeda) will be automatically reconfigured to connect to new servers at HP.
SPOCC display issue with Chrome (Issue 87610) The SPOCC interface is not displayed correctly when Google Chrome is used as the browser. This occurs because Chrome is not a supported browser. For a current list of supported browsers for SPOCC, see the Single Point of Connectivity Knowledge for HP Storage Products (SPOCK), located at http://spock.corp.hp.com/spock/index.aspx.

7 Service Processor Software 4.1.0 P003, 4.1.0 MU1 P004, and 4.1.0 MU2 P005 Releases (Optional) What’s New in the Service Processor The SP-4.1.0.GA-60.P003, SP-4.1.0.GA-78.P004, and SP-4.1.0.GA-97.P005 patches are optional patches that provide an update for the HP 3PAR Service Processor when running remote operations. These patches are available as physical media or as self-install packages for deployment to Secure Network Mode devices (available internally to HP only).
Changing the Customer Controlled Access (CCA) Setting To change the Customer Controlled Access setting by using SPOCC: 1. Log in to SPOCC by using the 3parcust user account. 2. On the SPOCC home page, click the SPmaint tab. 3. Click Network Configuration. 4. Click Customer Controlled Access. 5. Click the setting that you want. For example, to set outbound-only communications (and in effect, disable remote operations), click Set outbound only HQ communications — no remote access. 6.
8 Service Processor Software 4.1.0 P006, 4.1.0 MU1 P007, and 4.1.0 MU2 P008 Releases What’s New in the Service Processor This patch release provides the following: • Provides additional checks to make sure that SP patches are applied to the intended release versions (for SP 4.1 MU1 and SP 4.
Known Issues with the Service Processor Error with 3parcust user permissions in CCA menu (Issue 92336) When you log in to the SP as the 3parcust user by using the system console, SPMAINT does not correctly identify the user account, and you are incorrectly prohibited from using some commands that the 3parcust account should have permission to use. Workaround: Log in to SPOCC as the 3parcust user, or log in to the SP as the 3parcust user by using SSH. 24 Service Processor Software 4.1.0 P006, 4.1.
9 Service Processor Software 4.1.0 MU2 P009 Release What’s New in the Service Processor The purpose of the SP 4.1.0 MU2 P009 patch is to: • Provides Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) Certificate Management capability in SPOCC and SPMAINT. You can use SPOCC and SPMAINT to view the storage-array SSL certificate. • Storage-array Upgrade: During this operation the SP detects the storage-array OS Level and generates a new SSL certificate for the array, if one does not already exist.
10 Service Processor Software 4.1.0 MU2 P010 Release What's New in the Service Processor 1. While running in Secure Network Mode, the Service Processor may stop sending files to headquarters (HQ). This issue usually occurs after network connectivity to HP HQ has been lost and then recovered. The Service Processor resumes sending pings to HQ, but files are not sent from the SP to HQ. An earlier patch (SP 4.1.0 P008) partially fixed this issue.
