HP 3PAR System Reporter 3.1 Software Release Notes (QL226-96334, December 2012)

HP 3PAR System Reporter 3.1 Requirements
This document contains release notes for HP 3PAR System Reporter 3.1 Software (System Reporter),
installation notes, and lists of changes, defects fixed since the last version of the software, and known
issues that may appear. Read this entire document before installing System Reporter.
Supported HP 3PAR System Reporter 3.1 Host Platforms
RequirementComponent
Operating System Microsoft Windows Server 2012 (64-bit),
Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 (32-bit or 64-bit), or
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.6 (32-bit only if using Oracle, 32-bit or 64-bit otherwise).
Intel Pentium 4 processor, 3 GHz or higher. Multi-core processors are recommended both for
the database server and for the System Reporter server, especially when sampling a large
Processor
configuration (large number of HP 3PAR StoreServ Storage systems or those with a large number
of objects). See system sizing spreadsheet.
1 GB. See system sizing spreadsheet.Memory
At least 20 GB of available disk space. See system sizing spreadsheet.Disk Space
The system size above (CPU cores, memory size and disk space) is the minimum required for System
Reporter. However, the resources required depend substantially on the number and size of the HP 3PAR
StoreServ Storage systems that are being sampled as well as the sampling parameters. The CD includes
a system sizing spreadsheet (SR_Sizing.xls) that should be used to determine the number of CPU cores,
the amount of memory and the database space needed. Instructions for using the spreadsheet are
included in the spreadsheet.
HP 3PAR Storage System Requirements
HP 3PAR Operating System (HP 3PAR OS) 2.3.1 (and all subsequent MU's), 3.1.1, or 3.1.2.
Adaptive Optimization (AO) is supported for HP 3PAR OS 2.3.1 MU1 and later MUs and for
HP 3PAR OS 3.1.1.
AO is not supported for HP 3PAR OS 3.1.2 or later because, for these releases, AO is implemented
within the HP 3PAR OS.
The maximum CPG size supported when region data sampling is enabled for AO is 250 TiB.
The maximum AO configuration size is limited to 125 TiB.
Database Selection
Before installing System Reporter, you must decide which database you are going to use. System
Reporter 3.1 supports the following databases:
SQLite (default, included with System Reporter). SQLite databases have significant limitations that
you should consider before opting to use them. The main limitation is that because it uses very
coarse-grain locking, it is only suited for situations requiring smaller database size and limited
concurrency. If the database size is expected to grow to more than about 1 GB or if reports are
run very frequently, we recommend using either MySQL or Oracle databases. SQLite is not
supported when sampling more than one HP 3PAR StoreServ Storage array.
Microsoft SQL Server (not included) must be obtained and installed separate from HP 3PAR System
Reporter Software and can be run on a remote host. HP 3PAR System Reporter Software uses
ODBC to connect to the Microsoft SQL Server. HP 3PAR System Reporter Software does not
support Microsoft SQL Server through ODBC on Linux platforms.
