HP 3PAR System Reporter 3.1 Software Release Notes (QL226-96334, December 2012)

Changes in HP 3PAR System Reporter Software 3.1 since Version 2.9
DescriptionItem
AO behavior continues unchanged for HP 3PAR OS 3.1.1 and earlier. For HP 3PAR
OS 3.1.2 systems, Adaptive Optimization behaves as follows:
regionmover (Adaptive
Optimization)
AO configurations for HP 3PAR OS systems are allowed insofar as they are not
deleted following an upgrade from HP 3PAR OS 3.1.1. However, these AO
configurations are not executed by regionmover and are marked as inactive.
Following an upgrade from HP 3PAR OS 3.1.1, AO configurations remain and
can be used by administrators as a reference to recreate the AO configurations
on the nodes.
NOTE: Recreation of the AO configuration on the nodes is a manual process.
There is no automated means of transferring AO configurations from System Reporter
onto the HP 3PAR OS 3.1.2 system.
Key enhancements to the AO algorithms are as follows:AO algorithms
AO parameters have been tuned so that the system is a bit more aggressive moving
data to faster tiers, especially in cases where the slow tier has very little spread in
access rate density among the regions.
Absolute thresholds have been added for access rate density above which regions
are automatically considered for tier 0 and 1. If service time for a lower destination
tier is too high, regions are not moved to that tier unless upper tiers have no space.
This had already been considered when moving up to a faster tier; now it is also
considered when moving down to a slower tier.
Instead of using an absolute service time as a threshold for determining whether
the destination tier is too busy, the service time threshold is determined based on
CPG drive type and RAID type. For example, the threshold will be lower for SSDs
and RAID1 than it will be for NL with RAID6.

Column width has been increased
in the HP 3PAR OS 3.1.2 code.
In HP 3PAR OS 3.1.2, VV WWNs can be 16 bytes (32 characters)
rather than 8 bytes (16 characters), so the column width must be
increased for tables such as vvspace.
VV WWN
column width is
too narrow (8
bytes [16
characters]).
