4 Power Requirements
This chapter describes the general power requirements for the HP 3PAR StoreServ 10000 Storage.
Storage System Power Distribution Units
Each node has two dedicated power supplies and each drive chassis has four power supplies.
The drive cages and controller nodes depend on these power supplies. The drive chassis power
supply is located at the rear of the chassis while the node power supply is located behind the cable
management tray in the node chassis.
The HP 3PAR StoreServ 10000 Storage contains one of three types of power distribution units
(PDU) depending on the system configuration:
4 x Single-Phase HP 3PAR PDUs
4 x Single-Phase HP PDUs
2 x 3-Phase PDUs
Storage system with single-phase PDUs are equipped with NEMA® L6–30 or IEC 60309 connectors,
depending on the region. International PDUs are equipped with IEC 60309, 2P+E (3 wire, 2 Pole
+ Earth Ground) connectors. The appropriate receptacles or adapters are necessary at the operating
site to accommodate these connectors.
HP 3PAR cabinet PDUs require service from a dedicated single-phase 200-240 VAC (200-250
VAC International), 30-A (32-A International) grounded electrical circuit. However, for optimal
reliability and data accessibility, HP recommends a redundant AC configuration that uses
independent sources to provide a dedicated, grounded electrical circuit to each PDU. The following
figure shows the redundant AC configuration for systems using Single-Phase PDUs. See
Figure 14 (page 28).

WARNING! To avoid possible injury, damage to storage system equipment, and potential loss
of data, do not use the surplus power outlets in the storage system PDUs. Never use outlets in the
PDUs to power components that do not belong to the storage system or to power storage server
components that reside in other cabinets.
NOTE: If an expansion cabinet of a Single-Phase PDU system does not have components installed
in the upper half of the cabinet, it is unnecessary to connect and use the two upper PDUs (PDU 2
and PDU 3) to power the system. Redundant power is still supplied to the lower bays in the cabinet
through PDU 0 and PDU 1.
