6 Third-Party Rack Mounting
This chapter describes the available options and necessary requirements for installing HP 3PAR
10400 Storage components in third-party racks.
Third Party Rack Mounting Considerations
Some installations may want to use third-party cabinets to house the HP 3PAR Storage system
components supplied by HP. Only install system components into a four-post rack. Two post-racks
are not supported. The cabinet must also be equipped with the appropriate Power Distribution
Units (PDUs) or power receptacles and have access to an adequate power source that provides
the recommended level of redundancy.
For sites choosing to mount HP 3PAR Storage system components in third-party racks, the following
third-party kits are available:
10400 Node Chassis
Drive Chassis
Service Processor
NOTE: For general information on placement and recommended conditions for HP 3PAR Storage
System components see “Structural/Environmental Considerations” (page 17).
Service Installation Prerequisites
A pre-installation site visit checklist will identify key points for installing the system.
Customer Site and Contact Details
Correct service delivery location is as recorded in the System Assurance document.
Primary Customer Contact is as recorded in the System Assurance document.
Location of Envisaged Rack
Is the rack already in its final location? (see limitations below).
Operational power, with the correct connectors, exists in the rack’s proposed location. Requires 200 - 240
VAC PDU's or power-strips. Each drive chassis requires four C13/C14 connections; each node requires two
C13/C14 connections with a maximum of 8 per node chassis. The SP requires one C13/C14 connection.
36in. (91.4 cm) of service clearance is needed directly in front of the cabinet. Required due to the depth of
the chassis and potential to damage to other equipment that is in front of the rack/chassis.
