HP 3PAR System Reporter 3.1 Software Release Notes (QL226-96334, December 2012)

MySQL (not included), must be obtained and installed separate from System Reporter. MySQL
version 5.5 or later is supported. System Reporter uses MyISAM tables in MySQL. These tables
do not support transactions (which are not needed by System Reporter) and as a result have very
good performance even when they grow large. For very large databases and large sample sizes,
MySQL is the recommended database. The MySQL database may be on a remote database
server host, not necessarily on the machine on which System Reporter is installed.
Oracle (not included) must be obtained and installed separately from HP 3PAR System Reporter
3.1 Software. Oracle version 11g is supported. Performance of sample insertion with Oracle is
a little lower than that of MySQL but Oracle is also a good choice for large databases. The Oracle
database may be on a remote database server host, not necessarily on the machine on which
HP 3PAR System Reporter Software is installed. Note that 64-bit Red Hat Linux is not supported
if using Oracle since it requires a 32-bit Oracle client to be installed, and this is not supported
on 64-bit Linux.
HP 3PAR System Reporter Installation Notes
Detailed instructions are in Chapter 3, “Installation, Configuration, Update, and Removal” of the HP
3PAR System Reporter 3.1 Software User’s Guide. The CD now includes a spreadsheet for sizing the
system that will be used to run System Reporter and the database system.
To install and use System Reporter, a license is required for each HP 3PAR StoreServ Storage that is
to be sampled by System Reporter. If you plan to use AO, you must also have an additional license
to take advantage of the storage optimization capabilities offered by this optional component. If you
do not have a license for AO with HP 3PAR OS 3.1.1, the monitoring and system reporting features
are still accessible, but the optimization capabilities are inactivated. With HP 3PAR OS 3.1.2, the
system reporting feature is in the HP 3PAR Management Console rather than in System Reporter.
Prior to the System Reporter installation, the HP 3PAR CLI for Windows and Linux must be installed.
See the HP 3PAR Command Line Interface Reference for setting up the CLI client on the host machine
for Windows and Linux platforms. See also the HP 3PAR Command Line Interface Administrator’s
Manual. These documents are available on the HP Business Support Center (BSC) website:
http://www.hp.com/support/manuals
In the Storage section, click Storage Software, and then select HP 3PAR Operating System Software
under Storage 3PAR Device Management Software.
If you choose to use Microsoft SQL, MySQL or Oracle instead of the default SQLite database, these
data bases must be installed and configured before installing HP 3PAR System Reporter Software as
described in Chapter 3 of the HP 3PAR System Reporter 3.1 Software User's Guide.
You must install Apache 2.0 (or later) before installing System Reporter. A binary installation package
for Windows is included in the CD for your convenience. Red Hat Linux includes packages for Apache.
You may choose to download your own Apache package from the following website:
www.apache.org
NOTE: The purpose of the sysbck tool is to extract System Reporter sampling data from a given
time window for analysis by HP engineers. The sysbck tool is not intended for database migration.
