HP StorageWorks Fabric Manager 5.x Administrator Guide (AA-RUQSF-TE, September 2005)

22 Installation
NOTE: Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 is an option installed as part of the Fabric Manager installation
process.
The Fabric Manager installer checks the version of Microsoft Data Access Component you have
installed on your system and prompts you to update it if needed.
Client-only installations
Have the following information available before starting the install:
Fabric Manager serial number and license key (if you are installing the full version)
Fabric Manager server IP address and port number
Installation and troubleshooting information
Before installing Fabric Manager, see the following sections for installation notes and troubleshooting

Uninstalling or upgrading Fabric Manager
Fabric Manager stores user-specific information, such as username and server port number, for each user
in a FabricManager.Properties file. This file is not removed when you uninstall Fabric Manager;
you must manually delete it. FabricManager.Properties is located in the Documents and
Settings\userName\Fabric Manager directory. For example, C:\Documents and
Settings\gbeichle\Fabric Manager\FabricManager.Properties.
If you are upgrading Fabric Manager and change the server port number, make sure all users enter the
new server port number the next time they log in to Fabric Manager. When the users click OK, the new
port number is saved.
Single server monitoring a fabric
Make sure that you have only one Fabric Manager server configured to monitor a fabric. If multiple fabric
servers monitor the same fabric, switches in that fabric are subject to duplicate requests, which might result
in performance degradation.
Java Runtime Environment
The Java
TM
Runtime Environment (JRE) used by Fabric Manager is embedded in the Fabric Manager install
image (a separate Java installation is not required). During Fabric Manager installation, the JRE included
in the Fabric Manager install image is installed in the same directory where Fabric Manager is installed.
This JRE is available only for Fabric Manager. The Fabric Manager JRE installation does not set or modify
any Java-related environment variables or Windows registry entries. This JRE does not replace or conflict
with any other JRE installed on the system (for example, this JRE is not used by Advanced Web Tools). You
can install or run any other application (such as Advanced Web Tools) using a different JRE and the two
JREs do not conflict with each other. See the HP StorageWorks Fabric OS 5.x release notes to determine
the JRE version included in Fabric Manager.
