9. In the Bonjour filter profiles box, select Add New Profile. The Add/Edit Bonjour profile page
opens.
10. For Profile name, specify a unique name to identify the profile. Names can be up to 64
characters long, but cannot start with a number or contain spaces. Valid characters are: 0-9,
a-z, A-Z, and the special characters: ! $ % ’ ( ) * + - . : ; = ? @ [ ] ^ _ ` { | } The following
characters are not supported: " / \ # & < > ~
11. In the Add rule box, configure a new rule as follows:
• Action: Select that action that will be applied to all Bonjour traffic matching the rule.
Allow: Allow all announcements that match this rule to be forwarded to the next rule
(or profile).

◦ Block: Block all announcements that match this rule. These announcements are not
forwarded to the next rule (or profile).
• Using format instance.service.protocol: Use the fields to define a rule to match a particular
service. Matching is done using the standard format for Bonjour service (mDNS)
announcements, which is: <instance>.<service>.<protocol>.<domain>.
◦ Instance: Specify the name of the service. This is generally a descriptive name that
identifies the service. For example: Accounting_printer. Leave this field blank to match
any instance name.
◦ Service: Select a service type from the predefined list. Or, select the magnifying glass
button to see a list of services that are visible on the network but are not in the
predefined list. Or, select Other and specify a service type using the following rules.
– Must begin with an underscore (_) character and cannot contain any other
underscore characters
– Must not end with a hyphen or have two hyphens next to each other
– Must be between 1 and 15 characters long and contain at least one letter
– Must contain only the following: A-Z, a-z, 0-9, and hyphen (-)
