The LiveCD can be used to boot up the diskless or OS-less servers. The Brocade Command Utility (BCU) can then be used to update the boot code. Agent The management agent is automatically installed as part of the driver installation process and can be started manually or automatically. Host Connectivity Manager (HCM) The HCM is the Brocade adapter management tool that has an intuitive and easy-to-use graphical user interface (GUI).

000321304: Enhanced the transmit path handling in Linux Network Driver to avoid a corner case that could lead to transmit path stall. 000328857: Enhanced the VMware DDK build environment to properly use build timestamp to enable VMware Update Manager (VUM) support. 000328319: Enhanced the bcu to address a failure while running “bcu fcdiag -scsitest on Solaris Sparc”. 000321252: Enhanced the HCM GUI code to not recreate the tree at every discovery to address the spontaneous tree collapsing.
000247078: Enabled HP DL120 server to support Boot over SAN with two Brocade HBAs installed. 000306581: Allowed installation of 3rd party network drivers to bind the system services in servers with Brocade 10G Network Adapters. 000305994: Improved network driver CPU and performance optimization. 000308124: Enabled automated target and LUN discovery of enterprise HDS storage once LUN masking has occurred. 000305157: Addressed HCM agent exit issue when HBA port 0 is disabled in Windows device manager.

this timeout period and all the retries are exhausted, the boot from this device will fail. 8. When multiple boot paths are defined sometimes all paths may not be discovered. In some cases the boot process may fail. Re-discovery of the paths can be initiated from the Boot Device Page and by selecting appropriate Boot Device, followed by a reboot. 9. When configuring HBA BIOS for Boot from SAN, the HBA WWPN may not appear in the fabric’s name server.
Windows: 1. Use Windows 2008 R2 drivers for Windows7 x64 OS and Windows 2008 SP2 x86 drivers for Windows 7 x86 OS. 2. On Windows 2003 with boot from SAN setup, if the target containing the boot LUN is lost for more than 90 seconds, the system might fail. Reboot the server to recover. 3. Windows selects the first port visible during normal boot (and this can be different from the port that was selected for booting under HBA BIOS configuration).
10. In this release the WinPE image creation is limited to Windows 2008 x64 and IA64. As most of the systems are x64, it is recommended to use platform other than x86 e.g. x64 or IA64. 11. Windows Crashdump Configuration. On a system that is configured with Boot From SAN on a Brocade HBA, the following steps should be followed: BIOS must be enabled on all HBA port instances that can see the boot LUN. Same discovery mechanism (i.e.
5. While installing Linux driver using Brocade Adapter Software Installer, installer prints out an internal message "INITRD_UPDATE:NO". This is a harmless message and can be ignored. The installer will perform the mkinitrd. It is always a good practice to verify initrd after the driver install. 6. To install the Brocade drivers on a Linux system: Download and unzip the integrated installer Execute the .bin file. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
10. In RHEL 5.x systems, when serial console redirection is used, the system might report “soft lockups” with the following message in the /var/log/messages: “May 11 19:59:10 sysname kernel: BUG: soft lockup - CPU#0 stuck for 10s! [multipathd:15307]” It is recommended to remove serial console redirection to work around this issue. 11. In SLES11 systems with multipath enabled, dev_loss_tmo may reset (by the SLES 11 OS) to 10secs when an rport (target) is offline for greater than dev_loss_tmo. 12.
Documentation Updates 1. The online help incorrectly states that the following features are supported: Auto, point-to-point (P2P), and loop topology modes Arbitrated loop physical address (ALPA) configuration settings The documentation has been updated to indicate that only the P2P topology mode is supported and ALPA configuration is not supported. Since the online help cannot be regenerated until the next adapter release, please disregard the incorrect information in the online help.
Here is an example of this being done Following are the switch and adapter ports configuration where trunking needs to be enabled: BDCX_130_024:root> switchshow 296 297 3 40 18a080 id 3 41 18a180 id N8 Online N8 Online FC F-Port 10:00:00:05:1e:ed:55:06 FC F-Port 10:00:00:05:1e:ed:55:05 Note: Make sure the adapter ports are plugged into the same port group on the switch. The ports “0-7” are in one group, “8-15” in the other group, and so on.
If this order is followed for configurations, your switch ports don’t go persistent disable. If you don’t follow this order, one of the ports will go persistent disabled.
