Version: XCS 09501200 Description This document contains information specific to the release of XCS 09501200, which applies to the following array models: • HP StorageWorks 4400 Enterprise Virtual Array (EVA4400), which includes the HSV300 controller enclosure, HSV300-S controller enclosure, and the M6412 and M6412A disk enclosures • HP StorageWorks 6400 Enterprise Virtual Array (EVA6400), which includes the HSV400 controllers and the M6412A disk enclosure • HP StorageWorks 8400 Enterprise Virtual Array (
HP-UX, or Linux application server. For more information, see the HP StorageWorks Command View EVA 9.0 release notes. Also see the HP StorageWorks Command View EVA 9.0.1 release notes for details about version 9.0.1. • Replication software support. HP Replication Solutions Manager 5.0 is supported with XCS 09003000 or later. HP Replication Solutions Manager is an optional interface that offers enhanced management of local and remote replication and is offered at no charge.
virtual disks (LUNs) per array running XCS 09501x00 on the EVA4400. One LUN (LUN 0) is always reserved for use by the controller software. • Virtual disk size. Create virtual disks (LUNs) that are larger than 2 TB (maximum of 32 TB). You can only create, present, and delete virtual disks that are 2 TB or greater. You cannot perform replication tasks or extend and shrink virtual disks that are 2 TB or greater. • Vraid6 support. Vraid6 is now supported. Vraid6 has the highest availability of any Vraid type.
Upgrade and downgrade paths NOTE: All information about XCS 09500000 is interchangeable with XCS 09501200, meaning the upgrade and downgrade path information is the same for both versions and the updating product software guide for XCS 09500000 can be used to upgrade XCS 09501200.
HP SmartStart EVA Storage will install Windows MPIO DSM, which enables you to provision storage from the array; and DSM Manager, which enables you to change the default settings of MPIO DSM. SAN support The HSV300 controller in the EVA4400 supports 1/2/4 Gb Fibre Channel communication, but requires 4 Gb SFPs in the controller host ports. The HSV300-S supports up to 8 Gb communication through the embedded switch ports.
Maximum LUN size by operating system The following table lists the maximum LUN size supported by each operating system. Operating system Maximum LUN size HP OpenVMS 7.3-2, 8.2, and 8.3 with Alpha servers 1 TB HP OpenVMS 8.2-1, 8.3, and 8.3-1H1 with Integrity servers 1 TB HP-UX 11.11 2 TB HP-UX 11.23 2 TB HP-UX 11.31 16 ZB IBM AIX 5.2 IBM AIX 5.3 1 TB (AIX 5.2ML06 or earlier) 2 ZB (AIX 5.2ML07 or later) 1 TB (AIX 5.3ML02 or earlier) 2 ZB (AIX 5.3ML03 or later) IBM AIX 6.1 2 ZB Mac OS X 10.
Workarounds This section identifies important notes and workarounds for the EVA4400, EVA6400, and EVA8400. Hardware and controller software Controller logs possibly retrieved incorrectly after upgrading to XCS 0950xxxx on the EVA4400 After upgrading the EVA4400 to XCS 0950xxxx, HP Command View EVA might not retrieve the controller logs correctly. This occurs if the controller event log sequence number is reset to zero during the upgrade.
Certain menu selections cause the OCP to go blank After changing the topology for a host port or checking status with the primary controller, the display window of the OCP on the secondary controller goes blank. To fix this issue, “replug” the OCP as follows: 1. Remove the front panel of the controller by grasping the panel at each end and pulling it off of the controller. 2. Press the OCP latch and swing the panel out until it is fully open. CAUTION: Handle the OCP by its metal frame only.
Storage arrays not displaying in HP Command View EVA If the management server is running Microsoft Windows 2003 and has Emulex 8 Gb/s HBAs installed, HP Command View EVA 8.x may not display any arrays. To resolve this issue, you must install a Microsoft hotfix. Go to the following link for details and the hotfix download: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/945119 The title of the issue on the Microsoft site is: Stop error that is related to the Storport.
Direct connect restrictions Linux direct connect support In a Linux environment, direct connect is supported with Emulex 4 Gb and 8 Gb HBAs, except when booting the operating system from the EVA. Direct connect and direct connect boot is supported only with QLogic 8 Gb HBAs. HP-UX direct connect support In an HP-UX environment, direct connect is not supported on the EVA6400/8400 with 2 Gb HBAs.
EVA6400/8400 host port negotiates to incorrect speed The EVA6400/8400 might not correctly negotiate to 4 Gb/s when connected to an HP M-Series 4400, 4700, or 6140 switch with ports set to autonegotiate. The workaround is to set the switch port to 4 Gb/s. Creating 16 TB or greater virtual disks in Windows 2008 When creating a virtual disk that is 16 TB or greater in Windows 2008, ensure that the Allocation unit size field is set to something other than Default in the Windows New Simple Volume wizard.
Windows 2003 MSCS cluster installation The MSCS cluster installation wizard on Windows 2003 can fail to find the shared quorum device and disk resources might not be auto-created by the cluster setup wizard. This is a known Windows Cluster Setup issue that has existed since Windows 2003 was released.
If this problem occurs, follow these steps: 1. Close the HP MPIO DSM Manager GUI. 2. Close Disk Management. 3. Stop and restart the Virtual Disk services. 4. Open Disk Management, and then rescan or Diskpart rescan to enumerate the LUNs. If these steps are not successful, reboot the server. Controller failover can cause MSCS cluster failures During a controller failover you may receive a message: The node lost communication with cluster node .
