HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Array release notes (XCS 09501200) (5697-0013, June 2009)

Direct connect restrictions
Linux direct connect support
In a Linux environment, direct connect is supported with Emulex 4 Gb and 8 Gb HBAs, except when
booting the operating system from the EVA. Direct connect and direct connect boot is supported only
with QLogic 8 Gb HBAs.
HP-UX direct connect support
In an HP-UX environment, direct connect is not supported on the EVA6400/8400 with 2 Gb HBAs.
In an HP-UX environment, direct connect is not supported on the EVA4400 or EVA6400/8400 with
4 Gb Emulex PCI-e HBAs (Fibre Channel adapter, mezzanine card, or combination card). The affected
HBAs are AD299A, AD355A, AD221A, AD222A, AD393A, and all Emulex mezzanine cards,
including those in the BL870 and BL860 blade servers. The affected HP-UX versions are 11.23 IA64
and 11.31 IA64.
Windows direct connect support
In a Windows environment, direct connect is supported with 4 Gb and 8 Gb Emulex HBAs, except
when booting the operating system from the EVA. Direct connect and direct connect boot is supported
with QLogic HBAs.
Host port connection limit on B-Series 3200 and 3800 switches
A maximum of three EVA4400 host ports are supported on a single B-Series 3200 or 3800 switch
running version 3.2.x. HP recommends that you connect only one storage host port on a B-Series
switch. However, if you must connect more than one storage host port to a switch, separate the
connection into different quadrants. Otherwise the connections can drop following an array controller
resynchronization or when an event impacts the fabric, such as rebooting or adding a switch.
To manage the port limitation:
For all hosts, zone by HBA as defined in the HP StorageWorks SAN design reference guide.
Limit affected switches to only one HBA connection per host.
Limit placement of the switch as an edge device and not part of the core.
If the switch drops a connection, re-establish the connection as follows:
1. Disconnect the Fibre Channel cable from the failed port.
2. Wait 10 seconds, and then reconnect the cable.
The port relogs into the fabric and re-establishes a connection to the array.
Emulex HBAs require unique zoning
When multiple Emulex HBAs are connected to the same EVA4400, each HBA requires unique zoning.
QLogic HBA speed setting
In a Linux environment, auto speed negotiation is not supported. The QLogic HBA speed setting must
be set to 4 Gb/s.
