HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Array release notes (XCS 09501200) (5697-0013, June 2009)

virtual disks (LUNs) per array running XCS 09501x00 on the EVA4400. One LUN (LUN 0) is al-
ways reserved for use by the controller software.
Virtual disk size. Create virtual disks (LUNs) that are larger than 2 TB (maximum of 32 TB). You
can only create, present, and delete virtual disks that are 2 TB or greater. You cannot perform
replication tasks or extend and shrink virtual disks that are 2 TB or greater.
Vraid6 support. Vraid6 is now supported. Vraid6 has the highest availability of any Vraid type.
It uses dual parity to provide protection from simultaneous failure of two disk drives within a parity
stripe. Vraid6 stripes have four data blocks and two parity blocks.
A new disk group type has been added to facilitate Vraid6 support. The enhanced disk group
can simultaneously contain virtual disks of all supported Vraid types. The legacy disk group type
supports all Vraid types except for Vraid6. The disk group type is set at the time of creation and
cannot be changed after that time.
Connectivity support. Support for Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V is added.
Fixes
The following issue was fixed in XCS 09501200:
Fixed an issue where an Emulex Fibre Channel adapter, mezzanine card, or combination card
in an HP-UX 11.23 IA64 or 11.31 IA64 server failed to discover LUNs presented from an EVA4400
or EVA6400/8400 running XCS 09500000, 09501000, or 09501100. The affected 4 Gb
Emulex PCI-e HBAs are AD299A, AD355A, AD221A, AD222A, and AD393A and all Emulex
mezzanine cards, including those in the BL870 and BL860 blade servers.
The following issues were fixed in XCS 09501100 and are included in XCS 09501200:
Fixed an issue where an unrecovered read media error from a disk drive caused a Unit Stalled
Too Long error to occur or host I/O to hang on a LUN.
Fixed an issue where a recursive termination could occur when a failed or missing disk drive was
being accessed during a rebuild parity operation and a subsequent controller resynchronization.
The following issues were fixed in XCS 09501000 and are included in XCS 09501200:
Fixed an issue where a recursive termination could occur during snapshot creation.
Fixed an issue where high snapshot write activity could lead to a controller reset.
Fixed an issue where Fibre Channel switches using Extended Link Services (ELS) caused a controller
reset.
Improved internal controller communication to reduce failure reporting.
Improved I/O module firmware to reduce resets and loop disruption.
Improved controller software to address controller replacement issues.
Fixed an incorrect host port speed reporting issue.
Improved controller role transition under a certain controller failure condition.
