HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Array release notes (XCS 09501200) (5697-0013, June 2009)

Upgrade and downgrade paths
NOTE:
All information about XCS 09500000 is interchangeable with XCS 09501200, meaning the upgrade
and downgrade path information is the same for both versions and the updating product software
guide for XCS 09500000 can be used to upgrade XCS 09501200.
Although an online upgrade is supported, HP strongly recommends that you perform the upgrade
from XCS 09500000 or earlier to XCS 09501200 while the hosts are offline to avoid the potential
for an extended reset period on the I/O module after the upgrade completes. If you are upgrading
from XCS 09501000 or 09501100, you can do an online upgrade. This applies to the EVA4400
only.
For details about supported upgrade paths to XCS 09501200, see Table 3.1, Upgrade support for
controller software versions, in the HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Array compatibility reference.
For supported downgrade paths from XCS 09501200, see Table 3.2, Downgrade support for controller
software versions in the compatibility reference.
For upgrade instructions, see the HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Array updating product software
guide (XCS 095000000).
NOTE:
Upgrading to XCS 09501200 and management module firmware 0001.2010 to enable array-based
management with HP Command View EVA 9.0.x requires a full restart of both controllers in an
EVA4400 storage system.
You can download these documents from the following website:
http://www.hp.com/support/manuals
Under Storage, click Disk Storage Systems, and then select HP StorageWorks 4400 Enterprise Virtual
Array or HP StorageWorks 6400/8400 Enterprise Virtual Arrays under EVA Disk Arrays.
HP StorageWorks SmartStart EVA Storage Kit
HP StorageWorks SmartStart EVA Storage is a CD-based wizard that you use on your Windows
Server 2003 system to install and configure HP Command View EVA (HP Command View EVA 8.0.2
is not supported on Windows Server 2008 systems). You can use HP Command View EVA to configure,
manage, and monitor the HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Array (EVA) storage system.
NOTE:
For the EVA4400, HP Command View EVA 9.0 is preinstalled on the controller enclosure management
module. You can still use HP SmartStart EVA Storage to configure application servers.
To bypass the HP SmartStart EVA Storage interface and manually run the HP Command View EVA
installer, go to the \bin\installers\CV directory on the CD.
