Planning and Implementation for the
HP 3800-PoE+ Switches
Introduction
This chapter discusses the planning process you should follow to successfully
implement PoE and PoE+ using a HP 3800-PoE+ Switch. See “General
Considerations” on page A-1 for an example list of considerations during the
planning phase.
Notes In the stacked environment, the PoE/PoE+ will still be managed at the
member level. This means that power available to one member cannot be
shared with other members. The PoE features will have to be configured
member-by-member.
By default, LLDP on each switch is enabled. PoE+ (802.3at) Powered
Devices (PD) that only support 2-event class signature may not be able to
negotiate for additional power when connected to the switch. In such
cases, the LLDP option on the switch port must be disabled to enable the
2-event classification so that such PoE+ PDs may be detected.
For information on CLI commands to configure a HP 3800 Switch stack, and
to disable LLDP, see the Management and Configuration Guide for your
switch. Go to www.hp.com/networking/support. Auto search on your switch
model, for example “3800”. Click on your switch model in the displayed list
and click on Display selected. Then click on the links that have “Manuals” in
them to get to the web page that displays the available manuals.
