Planning and Implementation for the
HP 5400zl/8200zl Switches
Introduction
This chapter discusses the planning process you should follow to successfully
implement PoE or PoE+ on HP 5400zl/8200zl switches. The HP 5412zl Switch
and the HP 8212zl Switch share a common PoE/PoE+ implementation; and
the HP 5406zl Switch and the HP 8206zl Switch share a common PoE/PoE+
implementation. Port counts, power supply wattages, specifications, and
functionality for these two platforms are the same with respect to PoE and
PoE+.
See “General Considerations” on page A-1 for an example list of
considerations during the planning phase.

Note The PoE/PoE+ capabilities of the 5400zl and 8200zl chassis products, along
with the power supplies and modules that provide that PoE/PoE+ power to
connected devices, are described in this chapter.
Pre-defined bundles of chassis, power supplies, and modules are available,
but are not specifically described in this chapter. Go to www.hp.com/
networking/support and search on “5400” or “8200” to see all the products that
are available for these switch series.
