Planning and Implementation for the
HP 2920-PoE+ Switches
Introduction
This chapter discusses the planning process you should follow to successfully
implement PoE or PoE+ using the HP 2920-PoE+ Switches. See “General
Considerations” on page A-1 for an example list of considerations during the
planning phase.
HP 2920-PoE+ Switches
The HP 2920-48G-PoE+ Switch (J9729A) has 44 PoE-integrated auto-
sensing 10/100/1000Base-T RJ-45 ports with four dual-personality gigabit
uplink ports.
The HP 2920-24G-PoE+ Switch (J9727A) has 20 PoE-integrated auto-
sensing 10/100/1000Base-T RJ-45 ports with four dual-personality gigabit
uplink ports.
These switches also support some pre-standard PoE devices. For a list of these
devices, see the FAQs for your switch model. This feature is enabled by
default. If you do not want to use it, you must disable it by issuing the following
command via the switch CLI:
HP Switch (config)# no power pre-std-detect
For more configuration information, refer to the Management and
Configuration Guide for your switch at www.hp.com/networking/support. Auto
search on “2920”, select your switch model from the list, and click Display
selected. Then click on the links that have “Manuals” in them to get to the web
page that lists the available manuals.
