Planning and Implementation for the
HP 3500-PoE Switches
Introduction
This chapter discusses the planning process to follow to successfully
implement PoE on an HP 3500-PoE Switch. See “General Considerations” on
page A-1 for an example list of considerations during the planning phase.
HP 3500-PoE Switches
The HP 3500-48-PoE Switch (J9473A) has 44 PoE-integrated auto-sensing
10/100Base-TX RJ-45 ports and four dual-personality gigabit uplink ports,
either RJ-45 or SFP.
The HP 3500-24-PoE Switch (J9471A) has 20 PoE-integrated auto-sensing
10/100Base-TX RJ-45 ports with four dual-personality gigabit uplink ports,
either RJ-45 or SFP.
These switches also support some pre-standard PoE devices. For a list of these
devices, see the FAQs for your switch model. This feature is enabled by
default. If you do not want to use it, you must disable it by issuing the following
command via the switch CLI:
HP Switch (config)# no power pre-std-detect
