Planning and Implementation for the
HP 3500-PoE yl Switches
Introduction
This chapter discusses the planning process you should follow to successfully
implement PoE and PoE+ using the HP 3500-PoE and PoE+ yl Switches. See
“General Considerations” on page A-1 for an example list of considerations
during the planning phase.
HP 3500-PoE yl Switches
The HP 3500-48G-PoE yl Switch – J8693A (previously called the HP
ProCurve Switch 3500yl-48G-PWR) has 44 PoE-integrated auto-sensing 10/
100/1000Base-T RJ-45 ports with four dual-personality gigabit uplink ports.
The HP 3500-24G-PoE yl Switch – J8692A (previously called the HP
ProCurve Switch 3500yl-24G-PWR) has 20 PoE-integrated auto-sensing 10/
100/1000Base-T RJ-45 ports with four dual-personality gigabit uplink ports.
These switches also support some pre-standard PoE devices. For a list of these
devices, see the FAQs for your switch model. This feature is enabled by
default. If you do not want to use it, you must disable it by issuing the following
command via the switch CLI:
HP Switch (config)# no power pre-std-detect
