Management Module Installation Instructions
Management Module Replacement
Instructions
for the HP Series zl Switches Management Modules
The zl Switch Management Modules are designed to be hot-swappable and can be removed without
damage to the switch or the module. However, if multiple management modules are installed in your
switch, the file synchronization may be occurring between them. To minimize the possibility of
corruption between the Management Modules when one is being removed, use the “MM Shutdown”
button on the module you want to remove. Using the “MM Shutdown” button gracefully shuts down
the Management Module, completing any synchronization of files and state information to the second
(standby) Management Module.
Note: If both Management Modules are removed from the switch at the same
time, the switch will shut down.
If there is only one Management Module in the switch, HP recommends replacing the Management
Module, flash disk, or the battery (on the Management module) during the scheduled down time.
1. On the module, unscrew the retaining screws enough to disconnect them from the threaded
holes in the switch.
2. Using the extractor handles, pull the module out from the slot.
3. Remove the flash disk from the failed module and install it into the replacement module.
Note: To replace the flash disk, remove the retaining pin and then replace it
with a new retaining pin. Also, ensure that you push the card in to eject it.
4. Remove the battery from the failed module and dispose of it properly.
5. Install the new battery that came with the replacement module into the replacement module.
Warning: Use only the battery provided with the replacement module. There
would be a risk of explosion, if battery is replaced by an incorrect type.
6. Install the replacement module into the switch.
