R3204P16-HP Load Balancing Module System Management Configuration Guide-6PW101
2
• Rich load balancing scheduling algorithms. A LB module supports multiple load balancing
scheduling algorithms for different application scenarios, such as round robin, weighted round
robin, least connections, weighted least connections, random, weighted random, source address
hashing, destination address hashing, source port hashing and UDP packet payload hashing.
These algorithms are applicable to Layer 4-7 load balancing. Besides, Layer 7 load balancing
supports algorithms of HTTP content and RTSP URL.
• It allows you to monitor the health status of servers and firewalls at the network layer and
application layer by using the proprietary of network quality analyzer (NQA) of HP. This consumes
minimum system resources and ensures load balancing performance. The health monitoring
algorithms are applicable to Layer 4-7 load balancing.
• Layer 4-7 load balancing. Layer 4 load balancing provides load balanced TCP/UDP-based
services such as HTTP, FTP, POP3 and SMTP. Layer 7 load balancing supports analysis based on
HTTP Request-URI, HTTP Host, HTTP User-Agent, HTTP Accept-Language, HTTP Accept-Encoding,
and HTTP Cookie. The LB module supports session hold algorithms, including HTTP URL, HTTP
Cookie and SSLID, and supports long TCP connection, thus ensuring service continuity and
promoting access efficiency.
• All-around security protection: The LB module features the strongest security functions among the
load balancing products in the industry. It provides protection against DoS/DDoS attacks, ARP
spoofing attacks, oversize ICMP packet attacks, and address/port scanning attacks.
• Low operation cost. A LB module can be directly plugged into an HP A7500/ A9500/A12500
series switch or A8800 router to extend the load balancing capacity of the switch or router. It shares
the same management platform with the switch or router, and therefore is easy to manage. In
addition, any port of the switch or router can be used as the LB service port without the need of extra
investment.
• High reliability. Multiple LB modules can be inserted into multiple slots of the switch or router to
reduce single point of failures and support Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol (VRRP) and stateful
failover for high reliability.
Application scenarios
In small- and medium-sized data centers of campus networks
To enhance data center performance, load balancing is used to equally distribute clients' access
requests to the servers in the data center. In this scenario, the LB module is installed on the core switch,
and the access switch connects the server cluster to the core switch. The LB module's IP address is used
as the gateway IP address on each server and the LB module uses NAT to achieve server load balancing.
