The format of system information varies with the output destinations.
If the output destination is not the log host (such as console, monitor terminal, logbuffer, trapbuffer,
SNMP, or log file), the system information is in the following format:
timestamp sysname module/level/digest:content
For example, a monitor terminal connects to the device. When a terminal logs in to the device, the
log information in the following format is displayed on the monitor terminal:
%Jun 26 17:08:35:809 2008 Sysname SHELL/4/LOGIN: VTY login from 1.1.1.1
If the output destination is the log host, the system information is in one of the following formats:
{ HP format
<PRI>timestamp sysname %%vvmodule/level/digest: source content
For example, if a log host is connected to the device, when a terminal logs in to
the device, the following log information is displayed on the log host:
<189>Oct 9 14:59:04 2009 MyDevice %%10SHELL/5/SHELL_LOGIN(l):VTY logged in from
192.168.1.21.
{ UNICOM format
<PRI>timestamp sysname vvmodule/level/serial_number: content
For example, if a log host is connected to the device, when a port of the device
goes down, the following log information is displayed on the log host:
<186>Oct 13 16:48:08 2000 HP 10IFNET/2/210231a64jx073000020:
log_type=port;content=Vlan-interface1 link status is DOWN.
<186>Oct 13 16:48:08 2000 HP 10IFNET/2/210231a64jx073000020:
log_type=port;content=Line protocol on the interface Vlan-interface1 is DOWN.
The closing set of angel brackets (< >), the space, the forward slash (/), and the colon (:) are all required
in the above format.
What follows is a detailed explanation of the fields involved:
PRI (priority)
The priority is calculated using the formula: facility*8+level, where:
facility is the facility name, ranging from local0 to local7 (16 to 23 in decimal integers) and defaults
to local7. It can be configured with info-center loghost. It is used to identify different log sources on
the log host, and to query and filter logs from specific log sources.
level ranges from 0 to 7. See Table 6
for more information.
Note that the priority field is available only for information that is sent to the log host.
timestamp
The time stamp records the time when system information is generated.
System information sent to the log host and those sent to the other destinations have different precisions,
and their timestamp formats are configured with different commands. For more information, see Table 9
and Table 10.
