1 Installing an HBA HBA models Brocade manufactures several models of HBAs for HP. For an up-to-date list of supported models and interoperability information, see the HP SPOCK website at http://www.hp.com/storage/ spock. You must sign up for an HP Passport to enable access. Prerequisites Before you begin: • Obtain a copy of the latest release notes for your HP Brocade HBA at: http://www.hp.com/support/manuals Under storage, click Storage Networking, and then under Host Bus Adapters, select your adapter.
Installing an HBA CAUTION: The HBA can be damaged by static electricity. Before handling, observe the ESD precautions described in “Electrostatic discharge and grounding information” (page 22). To install an HBA into a server: 1. Power off the server. WARNING! Disconnect the server from the power source before installing the HBA. To reduce the risk of personal injury from hot surfaces, allow the internal server or workstation components to cool before touching. 2. 3.
2 Upgrading BIOS Online upgrade For instructions on upgrading the BIOS online, see the Brocade Adapters Installation and Reference Manual at: http://www.hp.com/support/manuals Under storage, click Storage Networking, and then under Host Bus Adapters, select your adapter. Offline upgrade To perform an offline BIOS upgrade on an HP-branded Brocade HBA or mezzanine card that has been installed on the host system: 1. Browse to the HP Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapters website: http://h18006.www1.hp.
3 HBAs on Windows servers A Smart Component is a self-extracting executable file that is used to install HP software, such as drivers, agents, and other management utilities. The HP Brocade HBA driver and HCM are packaged in Smart Components. Smart Components can be installed in GUI mode or in command-line mode. IMPORTANT: You must update HBA BIOS before installing or updating HBA drivers. See “Upgrading BIOS” (page 7). NOTE: Firewall issues exist with the HCM agent on Windows 2008.
Downloading HCM To download HCM: 1. Browse to the HP Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapters website: http://h18006.www1.hp.com/storage/saninfrastructure/hba.html 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. Under your server type, select your HBA type. In the Support section, click HP Support and Drivers or Software & Drivers. Select your HBA. Under Tasks, click Download drivers and software. Select an HBA. Select the operating system.
4 HBAs on Linux servers This chapter describes how to download, install, configure, remove, and upgrade the Linux driver and HBA software on servers running current Linux versions. Although HP supports the Linux in-box driver (the driver supplied with the OS distribution), not all hardware configurations support it. To determine if your configuration supports the in-box driver, see the HP HBA Software Support Matrices available on the HP SPOCK website at http:// www.hp.com/storage/spock.
3. 4. Select one or more of the following options: • Storage and Network Drivers • Management Utilities • Host Connectivity Manager Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation. IMPORTANT: The Brocade Adapter software installer updates the default initrd. Step 5 is required to point to the standard entry. 5. Using a text editor, edit the Default=X parameter in the /boot/grub/menu.
1. 2. Unzip the downloaded file. Use the following command to install the utilities: #rpm –Uvh filename.rpm NOTE: The utilities RPM installs BCU, agent, and Web Launch. Starting Host Connectivity Manager Web Launch 1. 2. 3. Enable and start the hcmagentservice: chkconfig hcmagentservice on ; service hcmagentservice start. Browse to https://localhost:34568/index.html or https://:34568/index.html (for remote access). Log in twice as admin/password. A jnlp file hcmwebstart downloads to the system.
Using the DD-kit Use CD burner software to burn the DD-kit image (select the image burning option). For information about using the DD-kit to install the operating system, see your operating system documentation.
5 HBAs on VMware servers VMware support HP supports the use of Windows and Linux as a guest operating system on VMware ESX and ESXi Hypervisor. When running VMware, Fibre Channel HBAs are supported by native VMware drivers compatible with ESX/ESXi Hypervisor. Windows and Linux Fibre Channel HBA drivers are not used on the virtual operating system. You must update HBA BIOS before installing or updating HBA drivers. See “Upgrading BIOS” (page 7).
6 HBAs on Citrix XenServers HP supports the use of HBAs in Citrix XenServers. You must update HBA BIOS before installing or updating HBA drivers. See “Upgrading BIOS” (page 7). For an up-to-date list of supported models and software requirements, see the HP SPOCK website at http://www.hp.com/storage/spock. You must sign up for an HP Passport to enable access. Installing the driver Typically, you do not need to install the Brocade driver because it ships in-box.
7 Utilities Fibreutils Fibreutils is a set of utility scripts for Linux that make certain operations, such as information gathering, easier. The following sections describe commands contained in the Fibreutils package. adapter_info The adapter_info command lists information about the Fibre Channel adapters. Table 1 adapter_info options –I Lists all FC adapters in this system. –L Lists all LUNs for each adapter. -m Lists the model of each adapter. –v Verbose. –h Prints the help menu.
hp_rescan The hp_rescan command rescans LUNs on HP supported Fibre Channel adapters. Table 4 hp_rescan options –a Rescans all adapters. –h Prints help message. –i Rescans a specific adapter instance. The specific device should be a SCSI host number such as 0 or 6. –l Lists all FC adapters. HBA management software Use Brocade HCM to configure, monitor, and manage your HBAs. Depending on your operating system, you can install and run HCM locally or on a remote server.
8 Diagnostics LED operation You can verify the operation of the HBA by observing the LED indicators visible through the mounting brackets. Each port of the 8 Gb/s models has three LEDs that indicate the operating speed. Each port of the 4 Gb/s models has two LEDs that indicate operating speed. Table 5 HP Brocade HBA LEDs LED Definition Steady green Indicates the active link speed and data transfers.
