1 Installing the QLogic CNA This chapter contains information about installing the CNA. See the server documentation for additional information about installing the CNA. WARNING! Disconnect the host from the power source before installing the CNA. To reduce the risk of personal injury from hot surfaces, allow the internal server or workstation components to cool before touching. CAUTION: Electrostatic discharge can damage electronic components.

Figure 1 QLogic Converged Network Adapter 4. If a different mounting bracket is required, change the bracket as follows. Otherwise, proceed to Step 5. a. Remove any transceivers or cables from the CNA transceiver cage assembly by pulling the bail (handle) out and down to release the latch, and then gently pull the transceiver out. Do not force it. After you release the latch, the transceiver/cable slides out easily.
b. c. Observing ESD precautions, store the transceiver in an ESD-safe place. Remove the mounting bracket screws from the top of the CNA. Figure 4 Removing the bracket d. e. Remove the bracket and store it for future use. Align the new mounting bracket tabs with the holes in the CNA. IMPORTANT: Be careful not to push the bracket past the grounding tabs on the transceiver housing. Make sure you properly align the LEDs with the holes in the bracket. f. 5.
8. Attach the media: a. For fiber optic cable connections: 1. Insert the SFP transceiver module into the cage. 2. Connect one end of the fiber optic cable to the LC connector on the CNA. 3. Connect one end of the copper cable to the CNA. 2. Connect the other end of the cable to the Converged Network switch.
9. Apply the power: a. Verify that you have securely installed the CNA in the server. b. Verify that you have attached the correct media. c. Plug in and power on the server. d. Observe the Link and Activity LEDs to be sure the CNA connects to the switch. For more information about the meaning of the LED indicators, see “CNA LED states” (page 23). e. Watch the server console for any POST error messages and the CNA BIOS startup message similar to the below screen.
1. Enter the QLogic NIC Boot Code setup menu. After the server is powered on, pressCtrl+Q when the QLogic NIC Boot Code banner appears to enter the setup menu. Figure 10 QLogic NIC Boot Code setup menu example 2. The QLogic Function Configuration Setup Menu appears. Use up and down arrow keys to select the CNA to modify. Each CNA port supports one function type - NIC, FCoE, or iSCSI. Functions 0 and 1 support NIC functions type. Functions 4 and 5 support iSCSI function type.

A pop-up window appears, use up and down arrow keys for selecting and enabling the function type or None for disabling and press Enter.
Figure 13 Modifying the storage function example 4. 5. After making the changes press to exit. In the example, iSCSI is enabled on port 1 and FCoE is enabled on port 2. To save the changes made, select Save changes and press Enter.
6. The system must reboot for the changes to take effect. Press Enter to reboot the system. Figure 15 Exit Setup Menu NOTE: Only Spyder cards sold since December, 2011 support iSCSI. The above procedure does not work on earlier cards. An utility exists for updating pre December 2011 Spyder cards to support iSCSI and can be provided if needed. Electrostatic discharge To prevent damage to the system, be aware of the precautions that must be followed when setting up the system or handling parts.
• Use a wrist strap connected by a ground cord to a grounded workstation or computer chassis. Wrist straps are flexible straps with a minimum of 1 megohm (±10 percent) resistance in the ground cords. To provide proper ground, wear the strap snug against the skin. • Use heel straps, toe straps, or boot straps at standing workstations. Wear the straps on both feet when standing on conductive floors or dissipating floor mats. • Use conductive field service tools.
2 Installing drivers For information on the most up-to-date software versions, see the HP QLogic Adapters Release Notes: 1. Go to http://www.hp.com/go/support. 2. Click See support and troubleshooting information. 3. Using the HP model number as a guide, enter the CNA model number in the for product box. 4. Select Manuals. For additional information, see the QConvergeConsole online help. The order of software installation is important. The software must be installed in the following order: 1.
Installing the QConvergeConsole application on Windows To Install QConvergeConsole on Windows: 1. Obtain the latest QConvergeConsole Smart Component for your configuration and copy it to your Windows server.. For downloading instructions, see “Downloading the QConvergeConsole kits and agents” (page 16) 2. 3. Unzip the Smart Component. Double-click the network Smart Component executable to begin the installation, and then click Install.
4. Double-click the FCoE Smart Component executable, and then click Install. The Smart Component automatically installs the FCoE driver without user intervention. 5. Click Reboot to complete the installation. Installing QConvergeConsole Windows agents This is an optional procedure. If you plan to manage the CNA with QConvergeConsole, you must install the QConvergeConsole agent on each server that has a CNA. To install the Windows QConvergeConsole agent: 1.
Installing firmware on Windows and Linux systems To install the CNA firmware/BIOS using QConvergeConsole: 1. Before you begin, make sure you have installed the following : 2. • QConvergeConsole • The network driver • The FCoE driver • Firmware image is available on your QConvergeConsole server For details on updating firmware, see the QConvergeConsole application help system. Installing multipathing software This section describes how to download and install the multipathing software.
3 Troubleshooting This chapter contains information to help you resolve potential CNA problems. Isolating CNA problems This section describes how to resolve typical problems with the CNA. Observe and collect data The first step in troubleshooting any CNA problem is to observe and collect information about the problem. Consider the following: • If the CNA has been working, what has changed? For example, changes to switch or storage system firmware could affect the CNA.

If any of these steps detect errors, the most likely causes are incompatible or faulty cables, SFPs, or CN switch ports. Cable or SFP problems can cause a wide range of symptoms, from solid or intermittent LEDs to performance issues. The FCoE switch port and CNA port error counters are good indications of potential intermittent and performance problems.
Verify Fibre Channel switch zoning for FC storage Verify that the Fibre Channel zoning and the CNA port WWNs match those displayed by the CNA. Verify Fibre Channel storage device discovery After verifying the startup BIOS message, CNA link, and Fibre Channel zoning; verify that the CNA can discover the configured Fibre Channel storage devices. • Perform the first level of CNA Fibre Channel storage device discovery at the BIOS level using the FCoE BIOS utility.
CNA LED states Green LEDs can be observed through openings in the CNA mounting bracket. For more information about CNA LED states, see Table 1 (page 23). NOTE: During Power On initialization, all the LEDs go off for a few seconds, and then resume their normal function.
Figure 20 CNA BIOS Figure 21 (page 24) shows the Select Host Adapter window. Select a CNA, and then press Enter. The Fast!UTIL options menu, shown in Figure 22 (page 25), opens. Use the Configuration Settings option to configure BFS and the Scan Fibre Devices option to scan for devices.

The Configure Settings menu opens, as shown in Figure 23 (page 25). • Adapter Settings (shown in Figure 24 (page 26)) displays information about the MAC address, WWPN, and BIOS revision. You can enable the BFS in this screen. • Selectable Boot Settings allows to configure BFS devices.
Figure 24 Adapter Settings display 2. To scan the Fibre Channel SAN for configured devices from the Fast!UTIL Options menu, select Scan Fibre Devices, and then press Enter. This screen displays the first LUN for each storage device detected. This is a useful troubleshooting tool for zoning issues (see Figure 25 (page 26)). CAUTION: This utility provides many options and parameters. Do not change any parameters unless instructed by HP technical support.
