Congratulations on your purchase of the 8Gb

Simple SAN Connection Kit. This guide provides

procedures for installing the kit components,

including the HP StorageWorks 8/20q Fibre

Channel Switch, the Host Bus Adapters (HBAs),

and the HP StorageWorks Simple SAN Connection

Manager (SSCM) software bundle on a Windows

or Linux system.

Verify contents and requirements

1. Verify the package contents.

The 8Gb Simple SAN Connection Kit is shipped with the

following items and quantities:

•One quick start instructions (this document)

•One Read-Me-First document

•One End User License Agreement (EULA)

•One HP StorageWorks Rack-Mount Kit quick start installation

instructions

• One HP StorageWorks Simple SAN Connection Manager

software CD, which includes HP Enterprise Virtual Array (EVA)

Management, Modular Smart Array (MSA) Management,

and other related software components

• One HP StorageWorks 8/20q Fibre Channel Switch

• One HP StorageWorks Fibre Channel Rack-Mount Kit

• Four rubber mounting feet for the HP StorageWorks 8/20q

Fibre Channel Switch (for desktop placement, if you are not

using the rack-mount kit)

• Ten 8 Gb shortwave fiber optic transceivers

• Six 5m LC-LC Multi-Mode Fibre Channel (FC) cables

• Four 8 Gb HP StorageWorks 81Q PCI Express (PCI-e) Fibre

Channel HBAs (PCIe x8 physical connector)

• Four low-profile host bus adapter (HBA) mounting brackets

• One standard power cord

• One HP Power Distribution Unit (PDU) power cable

• One serial cable

2. Verify that the server running your management software

(management station) meets the following minimum requirements

for supporting the software (including HP StorageWorks Simple

SAN Connection Manager and other HP software):

• Windows Server 2003 R2 operating system with SP2

• 512 MB of memory

• 160 MB of disk space

•One 2.0 GHz processor

• One CD ROM drive, one Ethernet port

• One or more PCI-e slots for the HP StorageWorks 81Q PCI-e

FC HBA

• Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.5 or higher

• Internet browser: Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE), Netscape

Navigator, or Mozilla Firefox

4. Check the switch LEDs (Figure 1) to verify that the Input Power LED is illuminated, the Heartbeat LED is blinking (once per second), and the System Fault LED is not illuminated. servers in your SAN. Depending on the server operating system for the non-management station installations, follow either the Windows installation or Linux installation instructions. CAUTION: Keep the HBA in the antistatic bag until installation. The HBA contains parts that can be damaged by electrostatic discharge (ESD). Before handling the HBA, use standard methods to discharge static electricity. Place the HBA on the bag when examining it. Retain the bag for future use.

If the HP StorageWorks Simple SAN Connection Manager software component is installed on a system with EVA storage, you are prompted to either select an existing user account or to create a user account (Figure 8) to manage your EVA. You must add a user account to the HP Storage Admin user group before installation can proceed. (This step is not necessary for MSA storage.) 8.

If the installation CD is not mounted automatically, issue the following commands to mount the CD: location, issue the following command as shown in the example below: # mkdir -p /mnt/cdrom # mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom # modinfo qla2xxx Filename: /lib/modules/ 2.6.18-8.ELsmp/kernel/drivers/ scsi/qla2xxx/qla2xxx.ko Version: 8.02.03 2. Change the directory to the linux directory. For example, if the installation CD is mounted in /mnt/cdrom, issue the command: 6.
