Planning for the installation
This section discusses the planning for the Fabric Manager installation.
Server and client or server-only installations
Make sure you have the following information available before starting the installation:
Fabric Manager serial number and license key (if you are installing the full version)
Whether to use the built-in FTP server or an external FTP server for operations such as firmware or
configuration download. In all scenarios, the built-in FTP server is installed but might not be started,
depending on your selection:
Select the built-in FTP server option and no other FTP server is installed on the Fabric Manager
server. The built-in FTP server starts when the installation has completed.
Select the built-in FTP server option. Another FTP server is already installed on the Fabric Manager
server and uses the default port.
Select the external FTP option. The built-in FTP server is installed but not started.
Type of authentication to use:
For Windows authentication, you must know the windows domain or workgroup name.
For RADIUS server authentication, you must know the RADIUS server’s IP or DNS name,
authentication port and type (PAP or CHAP), and shared secret.
For switch authentication, you must know the switch IP addresses.
For Solaris only NIS authentication, you must know your NIS host name or IP address and NIS
domain name.
IP address of the system to which you are installing Fabric Manager
For Windows only, you must know whether Microsoft® .NET Framework 1.1 and Microsoft Data
Access Component 2.7 or later is already installed (required for reports)
You can check to see whether you already have the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 and Microsoft Data
Access Component installed by clicking Start on your Windows desktop, selecting Control Panel, and
then double-clicking the Add or Remove Programs icon. In the window that opens, scroll through the list
of applications. If you see Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 listed, the latest version is already installed
and you do not need to reinstall it. If you see Microsoft Data Access Component, check its version to
make sure it is 2.7 or later.
