The following sections discuss methods of replication within each of these two local
replication.
Local replication
In local replication, data is replicated within the same disk array, that is, source and
target volumes are both on the same array. There are two techniques:
Split mirror
Snapshot
Advantages of local replication
The processes are fast.
Disruption to the application or filesystem involved is minimized.
Disadvantages
Both source data and replicas are vulnerable to catastrophic failure of the array
or the local system.
There are two styles of local replication:
split mirror replication
snapshot replication
Split mirror replication
In disk array terms, a mirror, is a dynamic copy of one or more source volumes.
