HP Application Recovery Manager software A.06.10 Concepts guide (March 2008)

3. Optionally (except with VSS integration), perform a preview of the instant
recovery session to provide an extra level of security.
4. Start the instant recovery.
Application Recovery Manager then:
1. Starts processes on the application and backup systems.
2. Extracts the session information from the IDB and the array-specific information
associated with the session from the ZDB database.
3. Performs the necessary checks to verify that all required conditions for a successful
restore are met (including any instant recovery options specified).
4. Prepares the application system by deactivating any volume groups on HP-UX
and dismounts any filesystems associated with the replica.
5. Restores the replica to the original source volumes as follows:
On XP and with VSS integration using SSE Agent, this is done by
synchronizing the source volumes with those of the selected split mirror
replica.
On EVA and with VSS integration, two options are possible:
Switching the disks (on EVA and with VSS integration using VDS):
The selected snapclone replica is substituted with the original source
volumes. Any host presentations that were created for the original source
volumes are then created for the restored snapclone volumes which
effectively become the new source volumes. As far as Application
Recovery Manager is concerned, the snapclone replica is deleted from
the associated replica set. Another instant recovery is not possible. The
old source volumes can be retained or not.
Copying the replica data back to the source volumes (on EVA and with
VSS integration using SMIS Agent):
The replica is copied back to the original storage. The procedure is the
same as creating a new snapclone replica during backup. You can retain
the source volumes or not. If you choose not to retain the source volumes,
the replica overwrites the source volumes during copy process.
6. Re-enables any volume groups that it disabled and re-mounts any filesystems
that it dismounted.
After instant recovery, the contents of the source volumes are returned to the state
they were in when the replica was created.
