Installation
NOTE This section describes the installation of the SBA cables between the Server Expansion Unit
and the HP Integrity rx8620 server or the HP 9000 rp8420 server.
For connection of the Server Expansion Unit to the HP 9000 rp8400 server, see “HP 9000
rp8400 server Upgrade and SBA Cable Installation” on page 36.
INSTALLATION NOTES BEFORE GETTING STARTED
• Before attaching the Server Expansion Unit, the server must be shut down. Schedule this with the
customer prior to beginning the Server Expansion Unit installation.
• The Server Expansion Unit is only supported with servers containing a minimum of three cell boards.
The cell boards must be loaded in the server in cell board slots 0, 1, and 2. Cell board slot 0 is the top-most
slot in the server chassis.
• The Server Expansion Unit ships with both core I/O cards installed. Next to the core I/O card, in the top
slot, is the manageability I/O expander link located to the right of the core I/O card. A cable is supplied to
connect to the server for the manageability link between the server and the Server Expansion Unit.
• If the server only has one A7109A core I/O card installed, another core I/O card must be installed in the
server to support the Server Expansion Unit.
• When the Server Expansion Unit is installed in the same rack cabinet as the server, the Server
Expansion Unit must be mounted directly above the server. This could require moving existing products
to another rack cabinet.
• When the Server Expansion Unit is installed in an adjacent rack to the server, adhere to the following
guidelines for installation:
— Two SEUs can be installed in a single rack with proper anti-tip feet, system interlock rod, and ballast.
— The two racks must be secured together with rack tie kits and the rear doors must be removed. The
racks must be either 41U or 33U. A 25U rack is not permitted for SEU installation.
— The top of the SEU must be at the same level as the top of the host server to allow for a complete
service loop accomplished by routing the cable out the back of one rack into the back of the other rack
so both the host server and the SEU can be fully extended in the locked position simultaneously.
— The space above and below the SEUs may be used, but care must be taken so equipment installed in
this space does not interfere with the interlock mechanism or SBA cable routing.
Shutting Down nPartitions
This section describes how to properly shut down an nPartition.
For complete details on system administration for nPartitions, refer to the HP System Partitions Guide.
Shutting Down an nPartition
This procedure is for checking the boot status of an nPartition and, if needed, shutting down HP-UX on the
nPartition.
