Customer self repair HP products are designed with many Customer Self Repair (CSR) parts to minimize repair time and allow for greater flexibility in performing defective parts replacement. If during the diagnosis period HP (or HP service providers or service partners) identifies that the repair can be accomplished by the use of a CSR part, HP will ship that part directly to you for replacement. There are two categories of CSR parts: • Mandatory—Parts for which customer self repair is mandatory.

Removal and replacement procedures Required tools The following items are required for some procedures: • T-10 Torx screwdriver • T-15 Torx screwdriver Preparing the enclosure To service any internal enclosure component, complete the following actions: • Power down all server blades or workstation blades ("Power down the server blades or workstation blades" on page 30). • Power down all storage blades ("Storage and other partner blade power" on page 31).
The first command initiates a controlled shutdown of applications and the OS before the server blades or workstation blades enters standby mode. The second form of the command forces the server blades or workstation blades to enter standby mode without exiting applications and the OS. This emergency method forces a shutdown if an application stops responding. • Use the Onboard Administrator GUI to initiate a shutdown: a.
To remove the component: 1. Press inward near the top of the CD/DVD-ROM drive. 2. Remove the drive. To replace the component, reverse the removal procedure. SATA CD/DVD-ROM drive IMPORTANT: If you are servicing a c3000 tower enclosure with the optional security panels installed, these security panels must be removed before beginning this procedure. To remove the component: 1. Remove the front cage (on page 43). 2. Pull on the latch to release the drive.
3. Remove the drive. 4. Remove the bracket from the drive. To replace the component, reverse the removal procedure. Device bay blank Remove the component as indicated. CAUTION: For best cooling practices, do not operate the enclosure for extended periods with more than one component or blank removed. When removing an active component, replace it with a blank. To replace the component, reverse the removal procedure.
Half-height or full-height blade CAUTION: This procedure provides instructions for replacement of a failed part only. To change the configuration of components, see the appropriate HP BladeSystem c-Class enclosure setup and installation guide. To remove the component: 1. Identify the proper half-height or full-height blade in the enclosure ("Device bay numbering" on page 70). 2. Back up all data. 3.
o Full-height blade CAUTION: For best cooling practices, do not operate the enclosure for extended periods with more than one component or blank removed. When removing an active component, replace it with a blank. To replace the component, reverse the removal procedure. Device bay divider To remove the component: 1. 2. Remove any components in the device bays: o Device bay blank (on page 33) o Half-height or full-height blade (on page 34) Slide the locking tab down.
3. Remove the mini-divider or divider: o c3000 mini-divider: Push the divider toward the back of the enclosure until the divider drops out of the chassis. o c3000 divider: a. Push the divider toward the back of the enclosure until it stops. b. Slide the divider to the left to disengage the tabs from the wall. c. Rotate the divider clockwise. d. Remove the divider from the enclosure. To replace the component, reverse the removal procedure.
1. Press the release tab and open the handle. 2. Remove the Onboard Administrator tray assembly. CAUTION: For best cooling practices, do not operate the enclosure for extended periods with more than one component or blank removed. When removing an active component, replace it with a blank. To replace the component, reverse the removal procedure. DDR2 Onboard Administrator module To remove the component: 1. Press the release button, and then pull the handle open. 2.
3. Remove the Dual Onboard Administrator module (on page 38) or Onboard Administrator blank (on page 38) from the DDR2 Onboard Administrator module. CAUTION: For mandatory cooling, do not operate the enclosure for any periods with more than one interconnect component or blank removed. When removing an active interconnect component, replace it with a blank. To replace the component, reverse the removal procedure. Dual Onboard Administrator module To remove the component: 1.

Power down the enclosure ("Powering down the enclosure" on page 31). 2.
Remove the T-10 Torx screw that secures the tray assembly cover, and then remove the cover. o DDR2 Onboard Administrator module: Push the quick release latch, and then remove the cover.
3. Remove the two T-15 Torx screws from the Insight Display. Disconnect the Insight Display cable from the PCA. 4. Remove the cable router by pulling it to the side and rotating it counterclockwise. Pull the LCD forward and lift it out.
To replace the component, reverse the removal procedure. When installing the new component, connect the cable first, and then install the Insight Display. IMPORTANT: To ensure proper installation and function of Insight Display, be sure the cable is routed properly as shown in the following figure.
Front cage c3000 enclosure front cage To remove the component: 1. Power down the server blades or workstation blades (on page 30). 2. Power down the storage blades, if applicable ("Storage and other partner blade power" on page 31). 3. Power down the enclosure ("Powering down the enclosure" on page 31). 4. Remove all half-height and full-height blades ("Half-height or full-height blade" on page 34). 5.
d. Disengage the release levers on both sides of the front cage. WARNING: When removing and lifting the front cage, always use the handholds on the sides of the front cage. The rear end of the front cage is heavy and the handholds provide a more balanced location to distribute the weight of the cage during lifting. CAUTION: When removing the front cage, the connectors on the midplane assembly are susceptible to damage. Use caution to avoid damage to the pins and connectors. e.
2. Power down the storage blades, if applicable ("Storage and other partner blade power" on page 31). 3. Power down the enclosure ("Powering down the enclosure" on page 31). 4. Remove all half-height and full-height blades ("Half-height or full-height blade" on page 34). 5. Remove the Onboard Administrator tray assembly ("Onboard Administrator tray assembly" on page 36).
CAUTION: When removing the front cage, the connectors on the midplane assembly are susceptible to damage. Use caution to avoid damage to the pins and connectors. d. Extend and remove the front cage from the enclosure. To replace the component, reverse the removal procedure. Media board assembly with cable (PATA DVD drive model) To remove the component: 1. Power down the server blades or workstation blades (on page 30). 2.
10. Remove the media board assembly cable. 11. Remove the four T-15 Torx screws securing the media board assembly to the front cage. 12. Remove the media board assembly. To replace the component, reverse the removal procedure. Media board (SATA DVD drive model) To remove the component: 1. Power down the server blades or workstation blades (on page 30). 2. Power down the storage blades, if applicable ("Storage and other partner blade power" on page 31). 3.
5. Remove the Onboard Administrator tray assembly (on page 36) or the DDR2 Onboard Administrator module (on page 37). 6. Remove the front cage ("Front cage" on page 43). 7. Remove the SATA CD\DVD-ROM drive ("SATA CD/DVD-ROM drive" on page 32). 8. Disconnect the media board cable from the midplane. 9. Remove the T-15 Torx screw securing the media board cable. 10. Remove the media board cable. 11. Remove the T-15 Torx screws securing the media board to the front cage. 12.
Midplane assembly Before replacing the midplane assembly, locate and record the enclosure serial number and part number using one of the following methods: • Locate the enclosure tag on the front, side, or rear of the enclosure. • Use the Insight Display to navigate to the Enclosure Info screen.
9. Remove the midplane assembly from the front cage. To replace the component, reverse the removal procedure. After replacing the midplane assembly, complete the following procedure: IMPORTANT: The following procedure requires Onboard Administrator Firmware Version 2.51 or later. IMPORTANT: Be sure that all interconnect modules are removed before reprogramming the serial number. 1. Log in to the CLI. 2.
6. Remove the front cage ("Front cage" on page 43). WARNING: To reduce the risk of personal injury or equipment damage, at least two people are needed to safely move the enclosure or the front cage. 7. Remove the six T-15 Torx screws that secure the handle. 8. Remove the handle. Repeat for the second handle, if needed. To replace the component, reverse the removal procedure. Top bezel (c3000 tower enclosure) Remove the component as indicated: To replace the component, reverse the removal procedure.
Bottom bezels (c3000 tower enclosure) To remove the component: 1. Power down the server blades or workstation blades (on page 30). 2. Power down the storage blades, if applicable ("Storage and other partner blade power" on page 31). 3. Power down the enclosure ("Powering down the enclosure" on page 31). WARNING: To reduce the risk of personal injury or equipment damage, at least two people are needed to safely move the enclosure or the front cage. 4.
3. Lift up on the front security panel, and then remove it from the enclosure. 4. Disconnect all cables from the rear of the enclosure. 5. Unlock the rear security panel. 6. Lift up on the rear security panel and remove it from the enclosure. To replace the components, reverse the removal procedure. Casters (c3000 tower enclosure) To remove the component: 1. Power down the server blades or workstation blades (on page 30). 2.
WARNING: To reduce the risk of personal injury or equipment damage, at least two people are needed to safely move the enclosure or the front cage. 4. Remove the three T-15 Torx screws securing the caster to the bottom of the enclosure. 5. Remove the caster. To replace the component, reverse the removal procedure.
2. Remove the power supply or the power supply blank. CAUTION: For best cooling practices, do not operate the enclosure for extended periods with more than one component or blank removed. When removing an active component, replace it with a blank. To replace the component, reverse the removal procedure. Active Cool 200 fan or fan blank To remove the component, turn the handle counterclockwise to the unlock position, and then pull the fan or fan blank from the enclosure.
NOTE: When installing a fan in the top row of fan bays, orient the fan so that the LED is in the lower right corner. When installing a fan in the bottom row of fan bays, orient the fan so the LED is in the upper left corner. NOTE: You cannot install HP Active Cool 100 fans and HP Active Cool 200 fans in the same enclosure. The Onboard Administrator sends an error message, and you must remove the type of fan with the least number of units installed.
2. Remove the blank. CAUTION: For best cooling practices, do not operate the enclosure for extended periods with more than one component or blank removed. When removing an active component, replace it with a blank. To replace the component, slide the component into the bay until it locks into place.
4. Remove the interconnect switch or Pass-Thru module. CAUTION: For best cooling practices, do not operate the enclosure for extended periods with more than one component or blank removed. When removing an active component, replace it with a blank. To replace the component, reverse the removal procedure. Interconnect bay divider To remove the component: 1. Remove the interconnect switches and Pass-Thru modules ("Interconnect switch or Pass-Thru module" on page 57). 2.
4. Remove the interconnect bay divider. To replace the component, reverse the removal procedure. Onboard Administrator link module To remove the component: 1. Disconnect all cables from the component. 2. Remove the component as indicated. CAUTION: For best cooling practices, do not operate the enclosure for extended periods with more than one component or blank removed. When removing an active component, replace it with a blank. To replace the component, reverse the removal procedure.
KVM module 1. Disconnect all cables from the KVM module. 2. Press the tab, and then pull the KVM module from the enclosure. To replace the component, reverse the removal procedure. c3000 tower enclosure dust filter To install the dust filters: 1. Line up the dust filter with the notch on the Insight Display pocket in the front security panel. 2. Snap the dust filter into place. 3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 on the bottom half of the front security panel, using the second dust filter.
1. Press the dust filter tabs on the front security panel back. 2. Pull the dust filters straight up. Cabling HP BladeSystem Onboard Administrator cabling Item Connector Description 1 Enclosure link-down port Connects to the enclosure link-up port on the enclosure beneath it using a CAT5 patch cable. 2 Enclosure link-up Connects to the enclosure link-down port on the enclosure above it using CAT5 patch port and service cable. On a stand-alone enclosure or the top enclosure in a series of linked port enclosures, the top enclosure link-up port may function as a service port.
• Allow any active Onboard Administrator module to access the linked enclosures. • Use the enclosure link-up port ("Enclosure rear components" on page 75) on the top enclosure for temporary connection to a PC using the enclosure service port ("Cabling a PC to the enclosure service port" on page 65) to provide quick access to any Onboard Administrator module, iLO, or interconnect module with Ethernet management ability.
2. Connect a USB keyboard and mouse to the USB connectors on the c3000 KVM module. The USB connectors are interchangeable. Item Description 3 Mouse Cabling a PC to the enclosure service port A PC can be temporarily connected to the enclosure to access the Onboard Administrator modules, iLO, and interconnect modules with Ethernet management ability. When enclosures in the same rack are linked, connecting a PC to the service port enables you to access the Onboard Administrator modules, iLO, and interconnect modules for all linked c-Class enclosures in that rack.

Device bay numbering Each enclosure requires interconnects to provide network access for data transfer. Interconnects reside in bays located on the rear of the enclosure. Be sure to review device bay numbering to determine which external network connections on the interconnects are active.
