HP BladeSystem c3000 Enclosure and c3000 Tower Enclosure Maintenance and Service Guide
Removal and replacement procedures 31
The first command initiates a controlled shutdown of applications and the OS before the server blades
or workstation blades enters standby mode. The second form of the command forces the server blades
or workstation blades to enter standby mode without exiting applications and the OS. This emergency
method forces a shutdown if an application stops responding.
• Use the Onboard Administrator GUI to initiate a shutdown:
a. Select the Enclosure Information tab, and then select the Overall checkbox in the Device Bays item.
b. Initiate a shutdown from the Virtual Power menu:
— Select Momentary Press to initiate a controlled shutdown of applications and the OS.
— Select Press and Hold to initiate an emergency shutdown of applications and the OS.
IMPORTANT: When the server blades or workstation blades is in standby mode, auxiliary
power is still being provided. To remove all power from the server blades or workstation blades,
remove the server blades or workstation blades from the enclosure.
After initiating a virtual power down command, be sure that the server blades or workstation blades is in
standby mode by observing that the system power LED is amber.
Storage and other partner blade power
Storage and other partner blades such as the Tape Blade and PCI Expansion blade are automatically power
controlled by the OA. Partner blades must be inserted before the associated server blade to ensure they are
power sequenced correctly by the OA. Powering off an associated server blade results in a brief power cycle
of the partner blade by the OA to ensure the partner blade has been completely reset and is ready for
operation when the associated server blade is powered on.
To prepare an enclosure for power down, ensure that all the server blades are powered off first.
Powering down the enclosure
1. Power down all server blades or workstation blades ("Power down the server blades or workstation
blades" on page 30).
2. Disconnect all power cables.
Powering up the enclosure
IMPORTANT: If the enclosure is powered down to replace the midplane assembly, then the
enclosure serial number, enclosure part number, and power input module type must be updated
before plugging in any server blades or interconnects. For more information, see the Verifying the
enclosure serial number instructions in the Midplane assembly section.
Connect all power cables and the enclosure, and all bays are powered on based on OA power delay
settings and iLO server automatic power-on settings.
PATA CD/DVD-ROM drive
IMPORTANT: If you are servicing a c3000 tower enclosure with the optional security panels
installed, these security panels must be removed before beginning this procedure.
