6. Install the half-height divider.
7. Remove the connector covers.
8. Install the server or storage blades.
a. If you plan to install four HP Active Cool fans, you can
install up to two full-height blades or up to four half-height
blades.
— For full-height blades, populate device bay 1 first, and
then populate device bay 2. See "Full-height device
bay numbering (on page 3)."
— For half-height blades, populate the device bays in the
following order: 1, 2, 5, and then 6. See "Half-height
device bay numbering (on page 3)."
b. If you plan to install six HP Active Cool Fans, blades can
be installed in any configuration.
9. Install device bay blanks into any unused device bays.
If the empty bays are configured for a full-height device, join
two device bay blanks to create a full-height blank.
Installing the rear components
CAUTION: To prevent improper cooling and thermal
damage, do not operate the enclosure unless all bays are
populated with a component or a blank.
1. Slide the fan into the enclosure until it locks in place.
a. The HP BladeSystem c3000 Tower Enclosure is shipped
with four HP Active Cool Fans and supports up to six fans.
Install fans based on the number of blades installed:
— For one to four half-height blades or one to two full-
height blades, install four fans in bays 2, 4, 5, and 6.
See "Fan bay numbering (on page 3)." Either two full-
height blades must be installed in device bays 1 and
2, or four half-height blades must be installed in device
bays 1, 2, 5, and 6.
— If you install any blades in device bays 3, 4, 7, or 8,
install six fans using all bays.
b. Be sure to orient each fan properly:
— When installing a fan in the left column of fan bays,
orient the fan so that the LED is in the upper right
corner.
