This document describes how to install the cable management tray kit into an HP 10000-series

rack. The kit consists of a rack-mounted tray and three cable retainer straps. An optional

power supply is provided for use only in clusters that use the Quadrics QsNet

or an

Infiniband

interconnect. The tray and straps are designed to support the weight of an

interconnect cable as part of the system’s cable management equipment.

1 Preparing to Install the Kit 1.1 Audience HP service representatives and other persons trained to install hardware mounting options and system components in the HP Model 10000–series rack. Such persons are expected to understand the hazards of working in this environment and to take suitable precautions to minimize danger to themselves and others. 1.

- One 13-inch strap that mounts to the lower side of the tray, designed to secure several interconnect cables in a large bundle. (Use as needed, in place of the second 8-inch strap.) The cable bundle will grow in diameter as you route cables from each successive server and there are differences in diameter between different types of interconnect cable. To bundle the cables, use a strap of the appropriate diameter. • The fasteners specified in Table 1-1.

3. The cable management tray. The two mounting holes adjacent to callout 3 are the locations of the eight-inch and 13-inch straps. 4. A captive slotted screw. The cable management tray installs on the end of each rack-mounted server’s rail kit. The rail kit contains a threaded insert which accepts this captive screw. 1.6 Resources To install the kit, you require the following resources: • • Tools: - A 6-inch long #2 (medium) Phillips (Posidrive or cross-point) screwdriver.

2 Installing the Kit 2.1 Installing the Cable Management Tray Install the cable management tray as follows: 1. Mount the tray on the end of the rail as shown in Figure 2-1: Figure 2-1: Mounting the Cable Management Tray on the Rail View towards the rear of the rack XC-CMT-002 2. a. Position the cable management tray on the end of the rail, as shown in Figure 2-1. b. Use a flat-bladed screwdriver to secure the captive screw to the rail’s threaded insert.

Use a #2 (medium) Phillips screwdriver to secure the strap to the tray’s threaded hole, using an M5 x 10 mm machine screw. Attach an 8-inch strap to the upper mounting hole in the side of the tray, as shown by callout 1 in Figure 2-3.

2. Route the cable over the tray and the 5-inch strap. Thread the strap through its metal retainer and secure tightly, using the hook-and-loop closure fabric as shown in Figure 2-4. Figure 2-4: Strapping the Interconnect Cables 3. Route the cable to the 8-inch strap that is attached to the tray below and secure it. The straps should now be taking all the weight of the cable, with no tension on the plug or PCI card port. 4.
