Gigabit Ethernet Interconnect Guide
Solutions based on the HP
ProCurve 2824
1U nodes: One rack of up to 20 application nodes plus
one control node
•
• 2U nodes: One rack of up to 17 application nodes plus
one control node
Solutions based on the HP
ProCurve 2848
1U nodes: One rack of up to 32 application nodes plus
one control node
•
• 1U nodes: Two racks of up to 44 application nodes
plus one control node
• 2U nodes: Two racks of up to 34 application nodes
plus one control node
• 2U nodes: Three racks of up to 44 application nodes
plus one control node
Note:
A single-rack ProCurve 2848 option for 2U nodes is
not offered. The ProCurve 2824 provides sufficient
ports to support up to 17 nodes within a rack.

1.6 Modular Configuration Solutions
In general, modular configurations are installed in multiple racks. The racks are referred to as
compute building blocks (CBBs), interconnect building blocks (IBBs), utility building blocks
(UBBs), and utility expansion racks (UXRs). The CBB is the rack that contains up to 38 1U nodes,
two network switches, power distribution and cable management systems. The IBB houses the
high-speed interconnects. An IBB supports up to 4 interconnects. A cluster might include more
than one IBB. The UBB is a single rack that contains the following mandatory components:
• KVM console
• Control node
