HP Cluster Platform Core Components Overview
Warning!
Some clusters use zero-U PDUs, which are mounted in the side of a rack and made accessible
by removal of the rack's side panel. To ensure safety and serviceability, do not block access to
the side of the rack.
Warning!
For installations in computer rooms with overhead power supplies, the maximum available
power cable length when routed to the top of the rack is approximately 36 inches. Never extend
the power cable emerging from the rack in any way. If you need to supply power from overhead
outlets, relocate the power supply outlets so that they are closer to the racks.

The control unit houses the main power switch, circuit breakers, load groups, and power-on
light. Control unit features include the following:
• Over-current and short-current protection for each branch circuit (four 15A UL-489 listed
circuit breakers)
• Easy identification of overloaded circuits (full trip circuit breakers moved to the OFF position),
minimizing down time due to overload conditions
• Manual On/Off control for each of the four output load groups
• Main AC input power On/Off switch and pilot indicator
• Switch guards to prevent inadvertent power off
• Secure outlet power cable retention
Each power strip has eight outlet receptacles (used in older HP Cluster Platform models), as
shown in Figure 2-33. New HP Cluster Platform models use a seven outlet power strip, as shown
in Figure 2-34 and Figure 2-35. The power strips can be single, double, or triple (when a power
strip plate is used, which is not shown here), and are mounted on the right rear side of the rack.
