1 For both dynamic and static loading considerations.
The footprint dimensions include the distance spanning the leveling feet and the additional
width dimensions of optional side panels. Use this information to estimate the total closed-rack
floor space required by your configuration and the corresponding floor-loading value. For
example, a configuration that consists of three racks with two end panels requires 1.843 square
meters (19.845 square feet). Figure 1-3 illustrates the footprint required for a three-rack
configuration.
Note:
The figure below uses 600 mm wide cabinets. The 42U, 800 mm wide cabinet is not shown in
this footprint example.

The footprint denotes the physical dimensions of the system; it does not include additional space
around the racks required for service access and airflow, described in Section 1.5.3 (page 24) and
Section 1.5.4 (page 25).
1.5.2 Unpacking Space
When planning for the installation, also plan for the additional space needed to unpack the rack
and remove it from its shipping pallet. If there is insufficient space in the computer room, you
might need to clear some space in an anteroom or corridor and then roll the system to its
installation destination. The following considerations might be relevant:
• You need 122-cm (48-in) of clearance all the way around the pallet and above the rack to
allow the removal of the packing materials.
• Maintain at least 86-cm (34-in) of clearance in front of the rack to allow the door to open all
the way.
