Precautions for Linux
The user who performs the update must be a member of the Administrator group.
Root permissions are necessary to perform the update.
During the update operation, temporary files are created under the directory Device-Manager-
server-installation-directory/inst/backup. For details about the disk space required for these files,
see the section Table 2. These files are cleared when the next regular or corrected version of the
product is installed.
During the update operation, progress is output to the log file Device-Manager-server-installation-
directory/logs/PATCHLOG.TXT. This file is cleared when the next regular or corrected version of
the product is installed.
Update Procedure for Windows
1. Confirm that the currently installed Device Manager server is one of the applicable product
versions listed in Prerequisites on page 9.
Check the version of the Device Manager server by referring to the version information of the
web client. For details, see the online help.
2. Back up the database.

3. Stop the following services:
Device Manager server
XP Command View AE Suite Common Component
For instructions to stop services, see the manual HP StorageWorks XP Command View Advanced
Edition software server administrator guide for Device Manager and Provisioning Manager.
4. Execute the patch (for example, T178010508_win_svr_6.2.0-01.exe).
The Self-Extractor dialog box opens.
5. Click the Install button.
If requirements are satisfied, a dialog box prompts you to confirm the update. Click the Update
button to continue.
6. Start the following services:
XP Command View AE Suite Common Component
Device Manager server
