Enter the Device Manager URL in a web browser, and then, on the Login screen, register the
Core CLI/SMI-S license. For details on how to register a license key, see the manual HP
StorageWorks XP Command View Advanced Edition software Device Manager user guide.
3. Create a user if necessary.
To execute CLI, a user who has Device Manager permissions is required. If you want to use a
user other than the System account (built-in account), log in to Device Manager web client, and
then create a user and set permissions. For details on how to create a user and set
permissions, see the manual HP StorageWorks XP Command View Advanced Edition software
Device Manager user guide. For details on the permissions required to execute the CLI
commands, see the manual HP StorageWorks XP Command View Advanced Edition software
Device Manager CLI user guide.
4. Assign a resource group to the user created in step 3.
When using the Core CLI/SMI-S license, only All Resources can be assigned to a user as a
resource group.
5. Download the Device Manager agent.
Download the Device Manager agent from web client.

6. Download Device Manager CLI.
For details on how to use Device Manager CLI, see the manual HP StorageWorks XP

7. If you want to use the SMI-S interface, set up SMI-S.
For details on how to specify the settings for using the SMI-S interface, see
Appendix A

8. Use Device Manager CLI to add storage subsystems to be managed.
Use Device Manager CLI to add storage subsystems to be managed by Device Manager. For

1-2-3 Checking license information
To check the type of the license registered in Device Manager, perform one of the following:
Use web client to check the license information.
Execute the GetServerInfo command of Device Manager CLI.
1-3 XP Command View AE Suite Common
Component
XP Command View AE Suite Common Component is a package of features that are used by the XP
Command View AE Suite (a collective name for HP StorageWorks XP Command View Advanced
Edition software and plug-in products). It is installed as part of the Device Manager installation.

5. Each product bundles the Common
Component to use the following functions:
Single sign-on
Integrated logging and repository
Web service
