3 Windows systems installation
This chapter provides instructions for installing the Device Manager server software on a single
central server system. For instructions on installing and using the web client software, see HP
StorageWorks XP Command View Advanced Edition software Device Manager user guide.
NOTE: The Device Manager does not support web client operations that use Windows terminal
service. The Device Manager does not support changing the configuration of the Device Manager
server and Device Manager agent.
Be sure to consult the appropriate documents:
Read the release notes before installing Device Manager, and make sure that you have the
minimum required microcode version on the disk array.
For details about the Device Manager requirements for using XP Provisioning Manager, XP
Tiered Storage Manager, or XP Replication Monitor, see the relevant manual for each product.

3-1 Windows system and media requirements
When the Device Manager server is installed, XP Command View AE Suite Common Component
and the XP Provisioning Manager server are also installed. If XP Command View AE Suite Common
Component and the XP Provisioning Manager server are already installed, they are upgraded to the
latest versions.
NOTE: To use XP Provisioning Manager, you need to register the license key. For details about
how to register the XP Provisioning Manager license key, see the HP StorageWorks XP
Provisioning Manager software user guide.
IMPORTANT: The Device Manager does not support operations that use the terminal service
function.
3-1-1 System and media requirements
The following are the minimum suggested requirements for Windows systems:
Operating system: The Device Manager server runs on the following operating systems. In
addition to these OSs, the server can also run on VMware ESX Server 3.0.x. Also, installation
via Remote Desktop is only supported for connection with a console session.
