HP Insight Virtualization Manager with Logical Server Management 6.1 User Guide

For servers with Virtual Connect, the blade is shut down and the server profile is disassociated
from the blade. (The server profile is maintained, however, and can be reactivated elsewhere.)
For virtual machines, the virtual machine is shut down, and the virtual machine definition
is unregistered. (If the logical server is reactivated, the virtual machine is reregistered.)
Following are other operations that you can perform on a logical server. These operations do
not change the state of the logical server.
Create
The CreateLogical Server... menu selection allows you to define a logical server, which
includes the identity of the logical server, the amount of memory and CPU, and predefined
network and storage configuration.
Identity
Allows you to specify the name, description, and other identifying characteristics of a logical
server, including:
Portability group Group of physical and/or virtual systems among
which the logical server can move.
Default portability groups are:
Each Virtual Connect domain group
All ESX hypervisors
All Hyper-V hypervisors
All Integrity VM hypervisors
NOTE: Default portability groups cannot be
modified.
(Optional) User-defined portability groups are:
A single Virtual Connect domain group
A set of ESX hypervisors
A set of Hyper-V hypervisors
A set consisting of a single Virtual Connect
domain group and a set of ESX hypervisors
A logical server created in this type of portability
group is a cross-technology logical server.
To create or modify a user-defined portability group,
use the ModifyLogical Servers Portability
Groups... menu selection.
Logical server architecture Architecture type of the system on which you are
creating the logical server. Can be HP ProLiant or x86
system.
Operating system Operating system on the system on which you are
creating the logical server.
For a Virtual Connect logical server, the operating
system you specify is used by VCEM to set the host
mode in the storage array for proper presentation to
the logical server. You can specify Microsoft Windows
or Linux as the operating system for a Virtual Connect
logical server created on the ProLiant architecture,
and Microsoft Windows, Linux, HP-UX or HP
OpenVMS as the operating system for a Virtual
