HP Storage Provisioning Manager (SPM) Version 1.2 User Guide

Importing or creating a volume service
SPM imports volumes from an array using the Import Volumes Wizard. Volumes can be automatically
discovered and made available for importing from managed arrays. Volumes on unmanaged arrays
cannot be automatically discovered; they must be imported manually.
NOTE:
All imported volumes are made available to fulfill storage requests through SPM. DO NOT import
volumes which could be allocated by another means or that are already in use, unless you intend to
mark them Inactive so they are not allocated to a request in SPM. Unwanted results are possible if
the volume is allocated to one consumer through SPM and to another consumer by another means.
In the request-based use model, the volume service is specifically imported or created to match a
service request and associated goals. Where possible, select settings to best fit the requirements of
the goals. To view the requirements of a goal:
1. From the Navigation tree, below Service Requests, select the specific service request in which the
goal resides.
2. Click the goal in the List View pane, then select the Actions Fulfillment button. (Alternatively, right-
click the goal and select Fulfillment.)
To import a volume from a managed array:
NOTE:
The volume discovery process can take a significant amount of time (up to an hour) depending on a
number of factors, including the number of volumes on the array, the number of arrays managed by
the device manager (for example, CV-EVA), recent volume changes, and other operations in progress
on the array.
