HP Storage Provisioning Manager (SPM) version 2.1 User Guide

Importing XP arrays as managed arrays during an upgrade
XP arrays can be imported as managed arrays when performing an upgrade by creating a
credentials file named SMPCredentials.txt and placing this file in the <SPM installation
path>/state folder. The SPMCredentials.txt file must be created and placed in the state
folder before the upgrade is performed.
The credentials file must have the following format:
A one line entry for each XP array.
Each entry must include the following four values: host name, port number, username, and
password.
Values must be separated by spaces.
A value must be provided for the port number even though an XP array does not need such
a port for connecting to it. Any number can be used. It will be ignored by the XP array, but
the format of the credentials file requires the inclusion of a port number.
If a credentials file is not provided or does not meet the required format, XP arrays will be imported
as unmanaged arrays.
The following is a sample of a SMPCredentials.txt file containing three entries.

Upgrading from SPM v2.0
Upgrading from one version of SPM within the SPM 2.x series to another within the 2.x series is
considerably simpler than upgrading from SPM 1.x. The process is automatic and does not require
user intervention.
Setting up and configuring SPM to communicate with arrays and networks
Before using SPM, determine what storage resources (arrays and networks) will be made available
to SPM and perform installation and configuration of the software components that enable SPM
to communicate with those resources. To understand the resources for which SPM provides
automated support, see SPM environment.
Refer to the following list for information regarding the resources and how each should be installed
and configured. This is a list of available resources, not required resources. Each environment will
have a different set of required resources.
An HP EVA storage system must be installed and configured with HP P6000 Command View
Software. SPM must be able to communicate, through TCP/IP, with the CV installation for all
EVAs used. For more information see Working with EVA storage systems.
An HP 3PAR Storage System must be installed and configured with SMI-S enabled. For more
information see Working with 3PAR storage systems.
An HP XP or P9500 storage system must be installed and properly configured. This includes
ensuring there is a FC connection between the server on which SPM is installed and the HP
XP/P9500 array. For more information see Working with HP P9000/XP Disk Array.
SPM supports automated zoning of volumes when these are running in a Brocade SAN
environment. To enable this functionality, the HP B-series or Brocade fabric management
software must be installed. For more information, see Working with Brocade Fibre Channel
networks.
