HP StoreOnce B6200 Installation Planning and Preparation Guide (EJ022-90995, November 2013)

Network requirements
Network requirements must be defined and sufficient IP addresses must be available. This is complex.
Please read Connecting to your network (page 12) before completing the details below. Please
note that Template 5 is available for software revision 3.3.0 and greater.
IMPORTANT: It is essential that the information in the following checklist is completed and given
to HP Support Services prior to the install. The installation cannot proceed unless all networking
parameters are known and in place.
Will you be using 10 GbE only, 1GbE only or both 10 GbE and 1 GbE?
nl
.................................................................................................................
1.
If you are using a 1 GbE network is the cabling CAT5 or CAT6 copper with RJ45 connectors?......2.
If you are using 10GbE, what cabling will you be using for the 10GbE connections (optical or
copper) ...................................................................................................................
3.
Have you purchased the required SFP+ modules (what part number and quantity)
nl
.........................................................................................................
If using both 1GbE and 10GbE networks, or two 1GbE networks, do you wish to use separate
sub-nets for data and management?...........................................................................
4.
Please define whether one or both subnets will have remote access. A gateway is needed for each
subnet that will have remote access.
nl
..............................................................................................................
Which network configuration/template do you intend to use?.......................................
Software version 3.6.0 and later allows you to select the network bonding mode
nl
5.
(1 = Active/Backup; 4 = IEEE 802.3ad Dynamic Link Aggregation; 6 = Active Load Balancing)
nl
Is the default bonding mode acceptable for the network configuration? ..................
nl
If not, please specify required mode. ..................
If you intend to use one sub-net only (data and management will be on the same sub-net),
options are:
Template 2 and 5: uses 1 GbE network only
Template 3: uses 10 GbE network only
Template 2 default bonding mode is Mode 6; Template 3 and Template 5 default bonding
mode is Mode 1
If you intend to use two sub-nets (data and management will be on different sub-nets), options
are:
Template 1: uses separate 10 GbE and 1 GbE sub-nets
Template 4: uses two separate 1 GbE sub-nets
Template 1 and Template 4 default bonding mode is Mode 1
NOTE: If using separate subnets for data and management (templates 1 and 4) and multiple
external switches are used, these switches must support a Multi Chassis Link Aggregation protocol
that is compatible with the rest of the customer’s network switch infrastructure.
Are you providing the recommended range of IP addresses for the selected template?............
Below are the recommended values that will allow you to expand your system without the need
to reconfigure the network. For other options, see Recommended versus required IP
addresses (page 19).
6.
Templates 1 and 4: The recommended range is: 25 (data = 16 contiguous, management =
1+8 contiguous)
Templates 2, 3 and 5: The recommended range is: 17 (data = 16 contiguous, management =
1)
NOTE: Template 5 is for customers who want to have only two 1GbE network connection from
each node in a couplet to their Ethernet switches. Although it halves the number of physical ports
required, It still requires the same number of IP addresses.
