Abstract
This document contains simplified instructions for installing the
HP D3000 disk enclosure in a supported HP rack assembly,
and configuring it to attach to a supported HP SAS initiator.
For detailed instructions, see the disk enclosure user guide.

Step 1: Identify required items
HP 12Gb/s external SAS 3.0 storage enclosure
Rack mounting kit
Disk drives
SAS cables
MiniSAS HD cables
NOTE: The included MiniSAS HD cables
can be used with the 12Gb JBOD. In order
to connect the 12Gb JBOD to either a 6Gb
Smart Array or to 6Gb HBAs, customers must
purchase the MiniSAS HD to MiniSAS cable.
Power cables
A workstation or server that contains a supported
SAS initiator, with Internet access

QuickSpecs for your disk enclosure model. QuickSpecs
are available on the disk enclosure page of the HP

Step 2: Complete the following tasks
_____ Confirm support for your hardware and software
components
The QuickSpecs for your disk enclosure provide an
up-to-date list of supported servers, operating
systems, controllers, switches, and software tools.
Download and review the QuickSpecs for your
enclosure model to confirm that the components you
plan to use are supported for use with the disk
enclosure. Check the QuickSpecs before initially
installing the disk enclosure and before making any
changes to an existing installation. The QuickSpecs
are available on the disk enclosure website.

Installation and user documents are available on the
disk enclosure website.
_____ Sign up to automatically receive advisories and
notices

Step 3: Develop a plan
Before installing the disk enclosure, read the disk
enclosure user guide to learn about installation, cabling,
and configuration procedures. While reading the guide,
develop a plan for your installation.
Step 4: Learn about the disk enclosure
The HP D3000 12Gb/s external SAS 3.0 storage
enclosure has the following features:

2U form factor with 12 3.5” HDDs
2U form factor with 25 2.5” HDDs
Support for LFF and SFF Smart Drive Carriers
Support for intermixing SAS and SATA HDDs and
SSDs of the same form-factor within the same
enclosure
