HP StorageWorks DAT 320 SAS Tape Drives firmware revision VSA3 release notes (DW092-90931, May 2010)

Description
The release includes updated firmware for DAT 320 SAS tape drives.
HP StorageWorks Library and Tape Tools (HP L&TT) must be used to download firmware to the tape
drive.
Drive firmware version: VSA3
Update recommendation Recommended
Supersedes Drive firmware version: VS98
IMPORTANT:
Testing has shown an incompatibility between HP-UX 11.31, HP Data Protector 6.1.1 and the DAT320
SAS tape drive with this new firmware VSA3.000.982 installed. If your system matches this
configuration, do not upgrade your DAT320 drive firmware at this time. If you receive a new drive
containing version VSA3.000.982 firmware, please downgrade your drive firmware to version
VS98.001.901. If necessary, contact HP customer support to get a password to allow updating
firmware to a previous version. A customer advisory will be issued to communicate when a long term
solution is available.

Fixes
With at least one pattern of encrypted records, unencrypted records, and filemarks on the media,
the DAT320 may report incorrect Next Block Encryption Status. This problem manifested itself
while performing an append to an encrypted backup and has been corrected in VSA3 version of
DAT320 firmware.
The DAT320 Encryption LED was not working as customer expected. Changes were made in VSA3
to resolve the discrepancy.
The DAT320 Ready LED would not flash as expected during small block read activity when an ILI
condition is present. This problem has been resolved in VSA3 version of DAT320 firmware.
Corrected some minor DAT160 format violations when utilizing DAT160 media.
