Overview
Read these installation instructions to instal l the optional DC SAN
Director Inter-Chassis Link (ICL) cable kit. The kit increases the number
of ports using four inter-chassis li n ks (or cables) that interconnect two
DC Director chassis.
These instructions provide basic setup instructions. For detailed
conguration information, access the HP StorageWorks DC SAN
Director hardware reference guide and the HP StorageWorks Fabric
OS 6.x administrator guide from the storage section on the following
web page:

ICL License
One ICL license is required for each director interconnected using
the ICL cable kit. The ICL licenses are ordered separately. Follow the
instructions provided on the License Entitlement Certicate to obtain
the ICL license keys.
IMPORTANT:
You must install an ICL license on both chassis before connecting
the ICL cables.
NOTE:
After adding or removing ICL licenses, all ICL ports must be
disabled a nd then re-enabled using the portdisable and
portenable commands.
Installing ICL cables
DC SAN Backbone Director cabling congurations
Connect the ICL cables in one of the congurations shown in Figure
1 through Figure 4.
NOTE:
The ICL cables and the ICL connectors are color-coded and
labeled for ease of installation.
1. Connect the cables from the top connectors (ICL 1) of the CR8
blades in the rst chassis to the bottom connectors (ICL 0) of the
CR8 blades in the second chassis.
2. Similarly, connect the c ables from the bottom connectors (ICL 0)
of the CR8 blades in the rst chassis to the top connectors (ICL 1)
of the CR8 blades in the second chassis.
IMPORTANT:
The cables can cross between the slot 5 CR8 blade and the slot
8 CR8 blade as long as the top-to-bottom rule is follow ed .
