Version 5.2.3 Effective date November 2007 Description Fabric OS 5.2.3 is a maintenance release that contains fixes since the release of 5.2.2a. HP did not release 5.2.2 and released 5.2.2a to a limited group of users (not a general release). Please note, these release notes document all fixes since the 5.2.1b release. Update recommendations This release is targeted towards customers who are not yet prepared to upgrade to a 5.3.x release. For those customers, it is recommended to upgrade to this 5.2.
New support for embedded switch models Fabric OS 5.2.1b supported the merge of the Fabric OS 5.0.x code stream with the Fabric OS 5.2.x code stream. This adds support for the following embedded switches: • Brocade 4Gb SAN Switch for HP p-Class BladeSystem (Brocade 4012) • Brocade 4Gb SAN Switch for HP c-Class BladeSystem (Brocade 4024) NOTE: The Fabric OS 5.0.5 stream remains active for the Core Switch 2/64 and for the SAN Director 2/128 in chassis modes 3 and 4. Fabric OS 5.2.
Access Gateway IMPORTANT: Access Gateway is supported only in the following HP products: • Brocade 4Gb SAN Switch for HP p-Class BladeSystem (Brocade 4012) • Brocade 4Gb SAN Switch for HP c-Class BladeSystem (Brocade 4024) Please check http://www.hp.com for the latest updates. Access Gateway mode is not supported if any half-high BladeServers (BL3xp) are configured in the same sleeve within the p-Class enclosure.
• • • • • • Simple Network Management Protocol Daemon (SNMPD) Web Server Daemon (Webd) Common Access Layer Daemon (CALD) Remote Procedure Call Daemon (RPCD) Event Monitor Daemon (EVMD) Asynchronous Response Router Daemon (ARRD) sends management data to hosts when the switch is accessed via FA API or SMi-S.
New features FC4–16IP (iSCSI blade) The FC4-16IP iSCSI blade enables the HP StorageWorks SAN Director 256 to provide iSCSI initiators to FC target connectivity. Please see the Application Notes for the HP StorageWorks B-Series iSCSI Director Blade for more information. Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) support for embedded switches Beginning with Fabric OS 5.2.
• Zoning database size increased from 256 KB to 1 MB. • Long distance mode simplification: • LD is a dynamic distance mode that automatically discovers lengths and assigns the correct amount of buffer credits with an Extended Fabrics license. • LS is a static distance mode that allows you to specify the number of buffer credits required with an Extended Fabrics License. • LE supports up to 10 kilometers at any speed and does not require an Extended Fabrics license.
IMPORTANT: The B-Series MP Router blade (for use with the 4/256 Director only) must run Fabric OS 5.1.0d or later. Note that the Core Switch 2/64 does not support the B-Series MP Router blade. Firmware upgrade instructions IMPORTANT: This release is targeted towards customers who are not yet prepared to upgrade to Fabric OS 5.3.x. For those customers, it is recommended to upgrade to this 5.2.3 release. For other customers, upgrading to the latest 5.3.
Fabric OS 5.2.3 updates The following sections list important updates. Fabric OS versions 5.2.1 and 5.2.1a — not released or supported Please note that HP did not release Fabric OS versions 5.2.1 or 5.2.1a. All fixes to Fabric OS versions 5.2.1 and 5.2.1a are reflected in this current Fabric OS 5.2.3 release.
4/256 SAN Director • Customers upgrading SAN Director 2/128 units from Fabric OS 5.0.5 to 5.2.0 while in chassisconfig option 3 or 4, will not get sufficient notification in the session error message or firmwaredownloadstatus command about how to correct the problem. • Before moving the slider UP on a Control Processor blade that is being activated, observe that the amber LED is not ON for the active CP for at least 5 seconds and that all LEDs are off on the new inserted CP.
FC4–16IP iSCSI blade for the 4/256 SAN Director (continued) • Do not insert the blade until the system is running Fabric OS 5.2.1b. • iSCSI virtual target creation involves adding LUNs to the virtual targets. The user discovers the LUNs by executing the fclunquery command. Testing has revealed that some devices do not respond properly to the LUN query. The user will need to use tools from the array vendor to determine LUN information required for iSCSI target creation.
Security Remove any password enforced expiration of admin or root accounts before downgrading firmware to 5.0.1 or earlier versions. Diagnostics • All offline diagnostics commands should be used only when the switch is disabled. • POST can fail if new SFPs are added during POST. SFPs should be added only while the switch is online or if the switch is powered off. • When you use the diagnostic commands systemVerification and diagSetBurnin, the switch or blade faults when the burn-in error log is full.
System boot Not all Fabric OS services are available when the prompt becomes available during boot up. Wait for all the services to come up before using the switch or performing zoning actions. Performance Monitoring If the user tries to save more than 512 monitors using the perfCfgSave command, some of the monitors may be lost. Management — Proxy switches If you are using a Fabric OS 4.x switch as an API or SMI-S proxy to manage a 5.1.0 switch, you must be running Fabric OS 4.4.0d.
portcfgdefault command function change for the Brocade 4Gb SAN Switch for HP c-Class BladeSystem With Fabric OS 5.2.1b, the portcfgdefault command now resets the configuration to HP factory default port settings. Update to Brocade 4Gb SAN Switch for HP c-Class BladeSystem instructions. After connecting to the Brocade 4Gb SAN Switch via the Onboard Administrator (OA) connect command, you will be in the switch CLI prompt. To return to the OA serial prompt: • Type Exit to log out of the switch.
SNMP configuration set via agtcfgset command can sometimes be initialized back to default when upgrading from one firmware version to another. nl E-port offline transition caused fabric reconfiguration after firmware download on 2/32 switch in 2560 port fabric. Encountered under specific test conditions. nl Running continuous portshow command loop hangs telnet session. Fixed per Fabric OS 5.2.1. Switch panic or CP failover when a kernel process is spawned by non-root user. Fixed per Fabric OS 5.2.1.
When using SMIAgent to connect to a switch in a larger fabric that contains more than 383 FDMI devices, the LoginAsUser fails and the switch panics; it either reboots or does HAfailover depending on platform. Fixed per Fabric OS 5.2.1. Removing a switch from a fabric causes trace files on remote switches to generate error message. Only applies to switches running 5.2.0x. Fixed per Fabric OS 5.2.1.
If failover occurs while FC4-48 blades being slotpoweron, some E-ports and unused ports may get stuck at Mod_Val state. Fixed per Fabric OS 5.2.1. Core file ffc_data is generated after disable/enable switch. Fixed per Fabric OS 5.2.1. swNbEntry under swFabric omits display of trunked EX-port ISLs. Fixed per Fabric OS 5.2.1. After configdownload and reboot, portshow displays FCIP tunnel for an IPIF that does not exist on the GE. Fixed per Fabric OS 5.2.1.
Non-disruptive configdownload may fail if invalid threshold alarm filter is used, due to invalid value. Fixed per Fabric OS 5.2.1. On 4/256, moving the switch PID to 2, waiting for the fabric to stabilize, and then issuing hafailover causes an assert on the new active CP. Fixed per Fabric OS 5.2.1. Redundant message about Ex_port trunking resulted from checking system settings for firmwaredownload Fabric OS 5.2.0 to 5.1.0d. Fixed per Fabric OS 5.2.1.
Fabric OS 5.2.1a fix When run as a separate command from the CLI, diagclearerror may hang the console or cause the system to crash. Affects only the Brocade 4Gb SAN Switch for HP c-Class BladeSystem platform. Fixed per Fabric OS 5.2.1a. Fabric OS 5.2.1b fixes Table 4 lists defects closed in the Fabric 5.2.1b firmware release. Table 4 Fabric OS 5.2.
In extremely rare occurrences, due to a race condition, a partial HA update arrives before a full update arrives from the active CP. As a result, the standby CP goes into a continuous restart cycle while it attempts to apply the partial HA updates. Fixed per Fabric OS 5.2.2. Port Mirroring feature is not supported on the HP StorageWorks 4/32B. Fixed per Fabric OS 5.2.2. Third party system is sending PLOGI frames with its DID as a broadcast format: 0x22ffffff.
During switchdisable/switchenable test, EX_port fails to come online after switch is enabled and switchshow shows the port is disabled (Setting VC Credits failed). User has to manually restore the port. In addition, when the Ex_port trunk master is unplugged, non-trunk master ports are disabled. Fixed in Fabric OS 5.2.2 by not disabling the port if it’s already offline Proxy devices disappear from FCR after disabling the master EX_port in a dual heterogeneous backbone fabric. Fix put into Fabric OS 5.2.
Memory leak caused weblinker to restart when performing a configure port status from Fabric Manager and was in error code path. Fixed per Fabric OS 5.2.3. Panic occurs when running Management Server commands GPT/GPPN/GPS/GAPNL continuously due to race condition. Fixed per Fabric OS 5.2.3. Speed auto negotiation does not always bring the ports to 4Gb speed with a specific 4Gb HBA. Applies to all 4Gb switches. Fixed per Fabric OS 5.2.3.
