Fabric Manager Startup

Figure 15 shows the Fabric Manager window the first time you launch it. Note that it does not show
any fabrics. You must discover fabrics before you can manage them with Fabric Manager. See
“Fabric Discovery on page 59 for information about adding devices from a SAN for Fabric Manager
to begin monitoring.
NOTE
The screenshots in the remainder of this chapter show Fabric Manager windows in which fabrics are
already discovered.
FIGURE 15 Fabric Manager initial launch default window
If this is not the first time the Fabric Manager client is launched from the server, Fabric Manager
determines whether any fabrics were previously discovered and whether your user credentials are
valid. All of the fabrics that have valid user credentials are loaded in the client. If any fabrics were
discovered by the Fabric manager server but do not have your valid user credentials, then you
receive a message dialog that one or more fabrics are available for monitoring. If you receive this
message, you can click Close to ignore it, or click Monitor Fabrics to begin monitoring these fabrics.
See “Fabric monitoring” on page 65 for instructions.
Notes on logging in to a switch
When you log into a switch, if the details about that switch do not appear in the details table, you
may need to re-log in and ensure that the overwrite check discovery credentials feature is enabled.
If you do not enable this feature in the switch login dialog, the credentials for the switch are not
saved in the switches table.
This can occur if you are prompted to provide non-seed switch credentials (that are different from
the seed switch), but you cancel the login. On the next login, if you provide credentials but do not
enable this feature, the switches table does not update the information and no data about the
switch appears in the Fabric Manager window.
